I want to buy a good poker book.
I am an intermediate player. I have played at Casino's probably 5 times, usually just 2/4 or 4/8. I play home games weekley, for about maybe 3 months now.
So I understand the game well, I can somewhat read tells from players, not too great though.
I usually play no-limit poker, so I would like a book that focus's mostley on that, but I also play online, and Limit at casino's. So a book with a little of everything would also work.
Nothing too indepth, and nothing about basics, I understand them well.
If anyone has a link to one, or can put in a good word for one, that would be great.
thanks
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Brunson's Super System, but wait for Super System II which should be out in the next month or so.

If you want to improve basic strategy and understand the numbers than Sklansky is the man.

I would go ahead and get the first Super/System. It still has valuable information. Books taht I would stay away from is Phil Hellmuths book. I don't see it as being helpfull. Get both of Sklanskys books. Theory of Poker and Advanced Texas Holdem. Both are great books. Mike Caro's Book of Tells is also a great buy, but get the video if you can. Its alot better to understand the tells.

Awsome guys, thanks a ton.
I will see if any of those books are on Amazon.com, unless someone has a link to a better place to buy them.

Last week i visted a site called the gamblers review and i saw an advert at the bottom for some sort of Hypnotic POker Book.
Obviously thinking it was rubbish, I clicked anyway to have a look, ok the site was not all that, but somehow i was compelled to buy the book.
I have lost so much this week, i thought another $49, who cares!
THIS BOOK IS AAAAAAMMAAAAZING!! You can actually trick other players into doing what you want, I couldnt beleive it.
i didnty really want everyone to know this, but i am so excited i had to tell you guys.. |

If you are playing 2/4 and 3/6 at the casino be sure to pick up Lee Jones or Ed Millers books on low limit poker.

Super system and theory of poker. HOldem and advnaced holdem by sklansky are ok but boring as a muthaf*cka. He is a real math nerd and you may have to reread the book 19 times before you undestand some of the stuff he talks about

It sounds like super system is the favorite.
This book isn't the Math one is it?
I don't mind a little math, but I was looking more for tells, how to aviod giving tells, how to bet in given situtations, ect..
Math is ok, but not a book just full of math.
Does Super System fit that criteria?

No, SS isn't "the math one". It's a great book to have and every poker play should read it, just depends on what you are really looking for. If you are looking for tells then you are looking for Caro's book of tells. Personally I think that's a waste of your time. If you are mostly playing no limit then SS is a great book, however my guess is you are on the low limit levels right now. I don't know about Low Limit NL, but for Low Limit Limit poker (wow, that sounds stupid, doesn't it?) you want one of the two books out there dedicated to the subject: Winning Low Limit Hold'em by Lee Jones or Small Stakes Hold'em by Ed Miller. I've read WLLHE and am starting on SSHE by Ed Miller. If you are playing live low limit hold'em, worrying about Tells is absolutely pointless due to the texture of the game. You want to be able to tell when your opponents are holding good or bad hands? Doesn't really matter because you are going to have 6-8 opponents on the flop. You want to know if the flop hit them? Great, except you are just as likely to pick up that the flop gave them bottom pair as trips.
OK, I'll stop now.
Personally I plan on picking up every book out there that is worth reading, but yiou might as well start out with the books that are directed at the games you are playing in, no?
