Software for multiplayer home network?

Posted Mon Sep 06, 2004 4:56 pm GMT by flibmeister
Do any of the poker software packages allow for playing against other players on a network (as opposed to the internet)? My wife and I would like to be able to play against each other (and maybe some software generated computer players at the same time) over our wireless home network. Does any of the currently available software have that option?

Thanks!

I am not aware of any such programs at the moment, especially not with computer controlled opponents. I think there is a market there and I think there are some independent people working on such things so I don't think it'll be long before something fitting the bill is released.

Thanks for the reply, Geno. Absent such software, do you have an opinion as to which is the most forgiving (of beginner's speed and mistakes) of the online sites? Preferably one where we could use "play money" at first?

Thanks!

virtually all of the online poker sites will have play money games. i'd stay away from poker room only because their play money servers are always WAY WAY WAY overloaded.

everyone else though is about the same. remember though... play money players don't play the same as real money players. but just to screw around... the play money tables will do just fine for you on just about any poker site on the net.

make sure you remember that flib and don't get disheartened if you find yourself losing at the play money tables as they are in no way indicative of the play at the real money tables.

Personally, I started at www.ultimatebet.com and found it to be user-friendly to beginners but other good sites are Poker Stars and Pacific Poker to name but 2. Hit a banner around the edge of the site and see which one you like the look of basically.

Good luck, make sure you beat her Wink

Thanks, guys. I don't even know if we'll get to the point of playing for real money (we seldom do much of that, even in real casinos <g>).

But, my wife had a new bionic knee installed, has had some complications, and has been pretty much housebound for over 8 months-- so I'm just looking for ways to keep her entertained!

She loves the poker TV shows, so maybe this'll be just the ticket....

FullTiltPoker.com, TruePoker.com and UltimateBet.com are the three sites with the best graphics at the moment. should be fun to play at one of these for play money.

There's some serious play money people at fulltilt. Me, for example.

BuddyPlay will be perfect for this. It is the first online Poker (Texas Hold'em) that is integrated with MSN Messenger to play with your buddies.

Just dropped back in to tell you guys I found a program that does exactly what I wanted-- it's called "World Poker Championship" by ValuSoft (http://www.valusoft.com/products/wrldpoker.html).

Not the most sophisticated program by any means (cartoonish players with funky names, etc.) it seems to work just fine-- and it does allow for play over our home wireless network.

Not bad at all for $20 (although I saw it advertised at Fry's last week for $14.99).
