I am not allowed to slowplay online.

I can't do it. If I slowplay anything less than a full house or nut flush, I get outdrawn. Its gotten to the point where if I flop a straight and there is two cards to a flush out there, I'm all in. I can't get anything for profit this way, but I have to. If I slowplay this hand, or even bet small, the ace of spades will always call. Then I'll go all-in on the turn when its another spade, and the ace of spades will call and catch the nut flush. Or if I flop trips or a set, I will lose everytime. I even try to slowplay two pair heads up, the guy makes trips on the turn. I've decided I will not slowplay online.

The odd thing is that I do it all the time live and it never bites me in the ass like it does online. I would think that online is rigged, but it's usually in tourneys so it doesn't juice the rake at all. I don't know what it is, but I can no longer get any value out of flopped straights and trips.

I know its a mental thing but I can't get it out of my head and my play is really suffering from it. Help.

The slowplay is waaaaay over used. The only time you should do it is if you have the deck crippled (top boat, quads, etc) and you hope someone else catches up a little or tries to bluff.

I really only play limit, but I do not slow play anything lower than a flopped boat, or nut flush. It's really not that worth it to slow play anything else (of course there are exceptions, but not all that many, for me anyway).

Almost everthing I've read has said not to slow play trips, regardless or conditions. The only way I'd do it is in heads up...maybe

1) I don't like the overt slow play.
2) I don't like the over reaction.

If u flop the nuts but are susceptible to the draws, I think it's in ur best interest to keep the draws around on the turn. (more money) If the turn misses, then it's time to drop the hammer. But this is all situational.

These decisions on bet size is where the art of NL comes in and creativity is at a premium.

Example:

limp in w/10c 8c in LP and five players decide to take a flop. flop is 9 J Q all red. This board is good but not great. Blinds check and player in MP raises 4xBB. U can call or raise. If by calling you'll get the people behidn you but the blinds will fold, then i think calling is ok here. You're at least a 4:1 favorite on the turn. If u think everybody will call, then re-raising is the way to go.

If people call and there's no raise, then u figure they are on the flush/straight draw or top pair junk kicker.

Two pair or trips would raise in this situation. Mostly to protect themselves. U can beat those hands so I think calling probably gets u the most value.

What u really hope for us that u call and that somebody in the back or the blinds re-raises. that way you'll be able to just go all-in right there.

Now, if the turn is blank, u bet to win the pot. If the turn is the flush card, then you shold call/fold depending on pot odds.

Going back to your original post, going all-in and finishing hte pot on the flop is not getting the most value out of your hand. U don't flop made straights too often, and thus u value betting is the priority, in my opinion. Remember, going all-in looks like a steal but u won't get any callers.

Actually, in this situation I'd really hope nobody had K10. I'd give it a good raise but any callers or re-raises you have to watch out for. Especially online, it's amazing the amount of poeple that will call or go all in on a draw.

Example, last night it's down to three in a 10 person sng. I limp in with 45o on the big blind. Flop comes 678. I go all in hoping to just pick it up right there(yes, I was the shorty). Chip leader calls with something like K9, and yup, you guessed it, river was a 10.

Slow playing is way overused IMHO.

In tourneys I think it has it's most use, when the blinds get a little bigger and you have a big hand and your in the pot with someone who bluffs or overplays hands, then you want to slow play.

It takes at least trips for me to slow play, and then usually only if the board is a rainbow and there is no realistic straight draw. I'll slow play a straight or a flush sometimes as well, but only if I think I'll get more money if I do. Most of the time you should just find a price you think they'll be ok with, hell they might even raise you, then you can set up your slow play.

I'll check raise far more than I'll slow play, slow plays are dangerous, and you have to know your taking a risk with either not getting as good a pot as you could of or being outdrawn.
