Bad Boys of Poker

Show was ok overall, I missed the first half hour so didn't get to see how Devilfish got knocked out. You could definitely tell the amatuer kid was intimidated, especially when he flopped a pair of Kings and let "The Unabomber" hang around until the river making a flush. Unfortunatley for the kid, the river also gave him trip Kings, not an easy hand to lay down.

The one hand that stunned me was Gus Hansen calling Antonio's "all in" with a 10-8. Wtf was that all about? Gus, if you're reading this, that kind of play just encourages the morons we have to deal with online on a daily basis! Antonio was stunned, he just stared at the cards and said "I don't get it." I'm not sure if any of us will ever "get" Gus Hansen. Phil loved it though, he said "He really is crazy." referring to Gus.

Another hand worth mentioning was when Paul Darden went all in with his 10-8s. This was different though, he already had a bit of money in the pot and was severely short stacked compared to Gus' mountain of chips. Flop comes 567 of spades. Darden flopped a straight flush draw! River comes 4s Shocked Wow! Talk about getting lucky, all in heads up shorstacked and you get a straight flush with one hole card. Unfortunately for Mr. darden, it wasn't enough to take down Gus Hansen.

Anybody know how you get into this show? They mentioned he won some kind of sweepstakes to get in and had only ever played .5/.10 poker.

I really think Gus had Antonio read that hole time. He didn't have a high pair or AQ AK because he wouldn't have waited that long. I think he thought he was either 50-50 or facing like pocket 9's or kojacks, JQ, AJ, or bluff he wanted to gamble. Great play.

you're kidding right??? three times in that show hansen went into all in hands as a dog preflop, and EVERY time he came up smelling of roses. the man has had a horseshoe surgically implanted somewhere about his person - i wouldn't like to speculate where.

That hand vs Esfandiari, the BEST he could hope for was less than 50-50, and at worst, he was in horrible trouble. Even if he had him read stone cold for a small pair, there are far better spots to try to take a player out - but the luck smiled on Hansen yet again.

as a fellow Brit, i was gutted to see Devilfish go out first, AKsuited vs KK... flop gave him and Ace, Ten or club to win - no help from the board. If he'd won that hand, i could've seen him going all the way - there are few people out there more dangerous with a chip lead. Although with Horseshoe Hansen on the table, who could tell. Confused

I was thinking that perhaps Gus and Antonio had made a deal before the show. They make sure to get into a heads-up/all-in situation and then one of them ends up with a huge stack and is the favorite to win. I don't know what the payouts were but it might have been such that splitting the combined winnings of say 1st and 4th was better than second. It almost looked as though Gus thought he was trying to be the "sacrificial lamb" because when he paired he almost seemed apologetic.

The winner of the tournament only won a seat to the finals

I didn't know that, thanks Curtis.

But I'm not sure that eliminates the possibility of a "deal" because Gus has already won a seat in this year's finals (I think). And it was Gus who made the very questionable call (almost like he was trying to give his chips away). But it's just my cynical nature to question something like that, if any "good" player could make that call, it's Gus.

Well if it was some sort of pregame collusion, I'm glad it backfired. I doubt that was the case though.
