Well, I survived for a few hours catching a hand or two and taking down a couple of short-stacks with some gutsy calls (gutsy for me anyway). When I finally got to the final table I had 3 chips left. I had taken a tough beat when I flopped the nut straight and had a player catch the flush on the river after he went all-in. After that I didn't play for quite some time because I couldn't seem to catch a hand worth playing and there were alot of players who were catching alot of hands. I sat back as patiently as I could with short stack waiting for the other players to knock each other out.
When we got down to the final table, I got dealt AJ offsuit. Naturally, being short-stacked and not having seen a card above a 9 for about an hour or so, I went all in. I had two callers. Flop came 2 8 4 rainbow. One players bet the other out of the pot so we flipped them up. He had pocket 8's. Oh no!! I really need help here. The turn came out a 3 and on the river...TAH DAH! a 5. I caught the bicycle. Two hands later I'm dealt cowboys. Finally, I'm getting some cards! I raised pre-flop and have one caller. Flop comes 8 3 K. Nice!! I went all-in and immediately he called. Hmm, I'm thinking he must have the rockets. Sure enough he flips them over. I showed my kings and watched his face fall. No aces came and I took him out too.
Now we were down to 5 players (did I mention that one of them was my hubby?). I got AQ 3 hands in a row (Yes, they did shuffle. I saw them). Each time I made the same raise as I had with the cowboys. Everyone folded so I'm taking down some nice blind money and making a super short stack out of one of my opponents.
Finally the hubby took out the short-short stack and another player took out the next short stack. And then there were 3. The hubby, another player and myself. Next hand the hubby went all-in on the flop and the other player called. I got out of the way. The hubby had top pair on the flop, but the other player flopped the straight. The hubby caught runner runner for the full house and took out the other player. Wow!! We just won the whole thing. Well, naturally everyone who was still there asked us if we were going to play it out. I said "hell yeah" at the same time the hubby said "Let's just chop". Chop? I don't think so. Of course he was shorter stacked (I had him 4 to 1 in chips at least at this point). So, he says "Fine. We can play it out or we can go celebrate." Hmmmm. Well, we have separate poker accounts and I didn't want to just split. But I really did want a beer. So, we compromised and he "gave" me the win so we could go get hammered. I still wanted to finish it out, but if you were playing in a tourney and the second in chips said "I'll give you the win", I think all of you would take it. So I took the money and ran......straight to the nearest bar to buy a round for my friends.
That's the tale. I know it's not great because the hubby chickened out on heads-up play Laughing , but most people don't ask how you won usually, just how much.

That's a fricking GREAT story!
you went into final table shortstacked, you cracke Aces with trip K's, you were heads up against your husband and you refused to chop! Laughing
way to go Wench!

by the way, railbirds always, always suggest a chop! it's their favourite thing! i dunno why cos it takes away their entertainment?
I am so proud that you held out tho, but i do hope you bought him a drink at least? Laughing

Great story Wink

If I'm anything, I'm stubborn. And, I bought him and 4 other friends of ours numerous drinks before the night, or rather, early morning was over. He doesn't know it, but I also made a deposit into his poker account with some of the earnings as well. What can I say? I'm soft for the man. Embarassed

What kind of photos? Are you trying to confuse me, Dave?

congrats on your win, that's a nice payout. it would have been cooler if you refused to take the win when he offered it and then beat him silly;).

Nothing complicated. When people win live games, sometimes a photo is taken with a big ass check.

I think some live shots of an all in, or better yet a smooth call would be very acceptable as well.

From what mindgame has said, I think that it would be nice to put a face to the beerwench name.

Well, no photos were taken at that tourney and I got paid in cash. I think I have a few from another night at a home game. Wait, I think I have one of me scooping a pot in a game at the beach. I'll see if I can find the disc with that one on it. Most of the pictures that I have are of other people, not me. But, if I can find one, I'll post it.

nice win! maybe your husband didnt want to hear it if you beat him so he just gave you the win.

how many people played and what was the prize money per finish..thats a lot.

To be honest, I think the hubby probably would have beaten me in heads-up play, but I'm not going to admit that to him. Wink

The buy-in was $50. There were 16 people in the tourney. 1st place paid $500, 2nd place $250 and 3rd got their buy-in back. So my portion would have been $500 but since we both won 1st & 2nd we took the whole $750. I gave him $300 and put another $100 in his poker account at the bank. Why am I so nice? Confused

It was a small tourney, but my first win in live play. The only other one I've come close in was a $25 buy-in with 45 people in the tourney. I placed 3rd in that one and won $225. (By the way, the hubby was out and had to play ring games for 4 hours while waiting for me to finish that one. Laughing )
