Here's the situation, approximately 150 Players left in a field of about 900. My chip count 5600. I'm in the $300 BB with JToff 2 limpers than a raise of 600 by mid position player who raise a lot of hands. There is one caller before me and I figure if I call at least one of the limpers will also call, one does. with a $50 ante there is now $3250 in he pot preflop. The flop comes 894 rainbow, I check 1st player after me checks aggressive player bets $600, next player folds , I call, player on my left moves all in for another $2600. Aggressive player folds and it's back to me. There is now $5050 in the pot and if I call and hit my staight I would have a huge chip lead at this point in the tournement. What would you do, how would you handle this situation?
I called, never got there and was elliminated shortly thereafter. Do you lay it down, if so why? Do you call if so why?
By the way the structure of this tournament was that only 27 spots got paid. I was personally looking for a big edge if I win this pot knowing full we'll I was beat and had to catch to continue also knowing that If I catch I am almost certain to play in the money if I do not got out of line again.
Anyway your opinion please!
Peace, HTF

I might be a little too conservative, but I would've folded the JT preflop. But, assuming I did get to the flop, I probably would've called. You've got odds to draw at it. The problem is JTo doesn't give you a lot of options in terms of play after the flop. It's basically a straight or nothing. I'd rather avoid those situations and pick a better spot, BB or not.
FWIW, I have a weakness for JTo too. I've lost a lot of money with it.

with a straight draw and a player check raising, i think i would have folded, what was his hand out of interest? did he make a set? 2 pair?
Also a field of 900 and only paying out to 27th??? wtf? thats pretty sucky.
I mean yeah ok, top finishers will get rich, but what about us little people!!

The player who check raised had flopped a set of 9's.
I also agree that I should have not taken a flop. I believe thats where I made my mistake. I justified by telling myself that what the heck 4 of us are taking this flop and if I hit I am bound to get paid off. Than when I hit a draw I continued with this line of thought. Also with such a short part of the field getting paid I was thinking that I needed these chips to get there.
I agree that JT is not a great hand and as a rule if I'm playing it it's because I am making a button raise just trying to pick up some blinds.
That's why I like these type of forums so I can hash out mistakes like this so I do NOT repeat them in the future.
Peace, HTF
