Situational Dilemmas

Posted Mon Sep 27, 2004 8:40 am GMT by wEbMaStEr
In each of the following situations you are in a Multi Table Tourney.
The money in this tourney starts at 18th place, 10th - 18th gets same money and then rises from 9th to 1st.
In each situation you have average stack.
You have TT you're pretty sure your opponant has 2 overcards, in each situation you have raised 4 times the big blind, your opponant is the chip leader and has re-raised you all in, everyone else has folded back round to you.
So the options are do you call or do you fold?

1: Fairly early in the tourney, still 200 people left.

2: 20 players left

3: 12 players left

4: 5 players left

so, do you call or do you fold? answers and comments please.

I suck, but I'll take a stab. I'd definately fold in the first three. 1) Too early 2-3) Too close to the money 4) Typically would call in that situation, but there's a lot of things that could spook me into folding.

I call 1, 3 and 4, and think seriously about calling 2.

Why did you post that twice, about 45 mins apart, either side of my post? Confused

Well, probably because he sucks. He told you that (twice actually).

I would like to make a correction on my decision after thinking about it more. I say I fold in all four situations with the only exception being #4 where I would call a bettor that proved to be a loose player during the course of the game.

BTW, I was in scenario #1 with AA once and folded an all-in on the second hand of the tourney. Maybe that's stupid but I don't want any part of an all-in that early. Incidently, the decision was correct as the guy did get a caller and ended up catching two-pair.

Example 1 & 2, I fold. Not taking coinflips that early in a tourney.

Example 3, I may call depending on what the payout is for 10th-18th. you say average stack so if I don't call, I've got a good chance of getting to at leat 9th place and better money.

Example 4 - no brainer, I'm all in before he gets a chance to raise me

1: Fairly early in the tourney, still 200 people left. Fold every time with an average stack, I figure at best he has two overcards and I'm 50/50 for all my money

2: 20 players left - That close to the money I'll find a better spot to go broke or double up.

3: 12 players left - With an average stack I'm still looking to survive, I'd let the damn counter go down to about 3 then fold.

4: 5 players left - This is the only real tough one to me, of course 5 handed I can't imagine a situation where I'd only raise 4x the blinds in a 5 handed game with 10's. Since I'm an average stack it depends if the other player has been agressive preflop or not. If he's been agressive alot, I call. If he's even shown reasonable self control I figure I'm already beat, or I'm facing a hand that I'm 50/50 with and I fold.

Your situation #4 of course forces me to decide what I know I'd not have to decide in a 5 handed game being in the money and being in the good money. I'd have gone all in before him, or comitted enough chips that I couldn't fold. Once I get to the money in SNG's or multi's I tend to put the decision on other people, not on me. In early position I am going to fold or make very very strong moves preflop.

Of course this may be incorrect...but it's my approach that late in a tourney.
