Me and my boys play a game just about every night... We play a 20 dollar buy in winner takes all. Generally there is about 5-8 of us playing. We all start of with 100 in chips (whites are 1, reds 5, and blues 10)... We start the blinds off at 1-2 and every "2" people that go out after that we raise the blinds to 2-5 and then 5-10 and it doenst get raised again till the final two in which it is 10-20 but only if both players agree (it sux man but these guys are stuck in their ways and wont change). Me having read some poker books and articles on the internet am a much smarter player and I always whind up in the final 2 but for some reason I can never finish anyone off because the blinds usually stay at 5-10 and the player I end up playing against just waits with his 100 chips for an all in hand and usually gets one in his eyes every 5 hands. So after a while i get disgusted and just call with a marginal to bad hand because the game would be over if the blinds would ever get any higher. How would you guys not only play this game with the full table of 5-8.l How would you play in these conditions one on one with the cheap lead or comming from behind. Also do you guys have an reccomendations for a new blind format for a small game like this?

I am thinking about proposing using PokerRoom.com's play money tourney format. 1500 in chips and start of with the blinds at 15-30 and then uping them by multiples of 2 every time someone goes out?
PS.. they guys I play with are hard to play with because they will play just about any hand wheter they limp in or their is a 20 chip raise in front of them.

We usually start with 1500 in chips with 25/50 blinds. They go up every 30 minutes.
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
and so on.

Is there a maximum to how high the blinds can get or does it keep going up? Also, does it matter on how many players their are because our games very some nights we have 5 players others we have 8 sometimes we have 10... ya know?? Just eleberate alot more for me LOL... BTW what type of buy in do you guys play 20 bucks?

We play 20 bucks. The blinds can go up forever. The game is usually over before they get ridiculous. You can have them raise every 15mins, or 45mins or whatever.

30 mins sounds reasonable We like to keep the game between 2 and half hours to 3 and half... no more no less but ya never know... The only problem we have is we have a chip set that only has whites, blues and reds.... so im guessing we will cound the whites as 25, reds as 50 and blues as 100...? Im thinking about orderinga set of 500 off ebay.. .or do you guys know and good places that have great deals on clay chip sets?

Not trying to hi-jack your thread, but I would also like to hear some peoples opinions about short handed strategy. I almost always make it to the final two playing somewhat conservative but can't seem to close the deal. I find it nearly impossible to only play the decent hands in this situation because I am losing too many of the blinds. Unfortunately I always seem to be up against someone who will play with a junk hand and gets lucky on the flop.

Play aggressively. Any Ace or King. Raise with suited connectors and one gaps. If he goes over the top then he probably has something. If you're the aggressor, it makes it hard for him to be.

whats the standard raise for descent, good and great hands... does it vary? I usually tend to raise 3 times the big blind with great hands but anything else I just raise double the big blind. (give examples for heads up and when theirs a full table)

You really have to mix it up or any halfway decent player will figure you out. I'll jump around from 2, 3 and 4x the big blind depending on who else is in the pot, how much is in the pot. Sometimes I'll bet according to the pot. 1/4, 1/2 and so on.

i play with ususally 5 players. we just start off with 3 big stacks. which is a mistake but w/e. we change the blinds when we feel like it, another mistake. these guy limp in with ANYTHING. the only way to keep these guys honest is to raise consatntly preflop and after the flop. theyll call big bets with any type of draw or pair. my strategy? be a jackal. be an absolute maniac. bet on every street. check raise all in. dont bet pussy amounts. make strong bets because i know i will usually get paid off. i usually make a medium sized bet , then go haywire and bet high even on nothing. i know they just have to lay it down because they will almost always call small-medium sized bets. i know they like to stay in to try and hit something on the turn and the river. recognize when they're on a draw and bet after the flop and make the turn bet really strong. if they miss on the river, they'll fold

Heads up - best advice is to be the agressor. You really cant sit and wait for big hands like on a full table or even 6 handed table. The agressor will win most of the time in a heads up battle.
