KEM bought out?

Posted Wed Sep 29, 2004 8:32 am GMT by ballbp
Here's a question for any of you card experts out there. A friend of mine was in a gift shop chain store here in town that is the only place I know that carries KEM cards here. He didn't see any KEMs so he asked the salesperson when they were going to be getting any in. She informed him that they were no longer going to be carrying KEMs because they were bought out by a new company lately. I think the name was Concorde or something like that. Can anyone confirm this or if the salesperson is misinformed?

Kem was purchased by United States Playing Cards. They are in the process of moving all the equipment to OH. They expect to be online in a couple months. The current shortage of wide sized is due to the fact the machinery that does wide cards was moved first, but now bridge sized are becoming short such as no Arrow backs left as well as many other #'s. USPC has told me that you will have to have a USPC account to purchase Kem when they get back online. I do not know how they qualify retailers, but for Kem, all you needed was a 50 deck order to open a wholesale account. Not likely USPC will be this "loose" with accounts.

Thanks MSPatton. So to make sure I read that right, they were bought out but USPC is still going to sell them as KEMs once they get back up and running? It's a good thing I got my decks a long time ago because as most people that use them, I love them.

I can not say they are going to sell them as "Kems". They are going to use the "Kem" equipment to make plastic cards, but I did not ask that direct question "are they going to sell them as KEM".

Gotcha Thanks again.

The thing I would like to see is a Plastic Card with the Texture of the USPC Cards and that are stiff as the BEE Club special when you riffle them. But have the Cool Arrow Back with the Wide Poker Size card...

That would be a dream deck for me. and would help me save alot of money on deck tunr over and over head...

My stock was running low so I had to buy another Gross of cards. Their not cheep from USPC but heri cheeper then buying them in a store. Still would like to find a deck of custom plastic cards or custom Kems. now it looks like their gonna be even more a pain in the ass to get...

I've bought only one deck of KEM cards and Yes I do love them but theri for my personal Games. or the special Sunday games I hold once a month... these where a pain in the ass to get in the normal index/poker size and with a Arrow back...

Not sure about an official site, but I buy all of my cards here and they appear to have what you are talking about..

http://www.kardwell.com/a-plus.htm

*I dont work for them*, I just remember seeing them when I bought some more KEM's from them about 2 months ago. I'm not very updated with the whole KEM moving story, but I purchased the arrow back at this site like I said about 2 months ago, not sure if they still have them. I had a good experience with this site 2 times now, great product, but they never seem to respond to my e-mails...

These could be close, but I don't think it gets better than KEMs, IMO.

Hope it helps

KEMs are pretty nice. I have a deck for my private sunday night game, and yes they are really sweet. but I'm talking more for a faster paced massive game, and I don't wanna cheap out on them but I can be buying 6 decks a night eighther, it just more cost effective to get some Plastic cards/KEMs and try and get them to last as long as possable.

Anyways, Thanks for the link.

Anyone here have any experience with Copags. From what I hear they are supposed to be as good as KEM's if not better.
