Hi guys,
Since 6 weeks I've been playing poker online, at the $1/2 table.
After I lost $200 rather quickly at pcific poker and decided to get more serious with it and read up on holdem. I switched to party poker and deposited another $200
I bought S&M poker for advanced players and started reading, focussing especially on the loose games chapter. I also read up a lot on internet especially the lowlimitholdem.com strategy pages and think i'm getting better every day.
I deposited another 200 and got through it today
I played over 3500 raked hands with the second 200.. I don't know if this is a promising number..
End of story is... I'm not winning. I like the game a lot and I am willing to invest more but certainly not a lot more!!
I know there's a lot to improve on my game but I would like some help with it..
Am I sitting at the wrong table for intstance? Maybe I should start practising with play money, but in my opinion these games are just not a good reflection of the real game and thus I wouldn't be learning a lot that way. Maybe smaller stakes.? but again then the game gets even looser and I wonder if that's helping me out since I will find myself loosing on the river to some guy chasing his 35o to the river and making his backdoor straight even more often..
Maybe you guys can recommend me some more reads (preferably for free on the internet)..?
Please help me out here cause I'm seriously in doubt if shouldn't give up on playing at all!!
Thx

This is hard to read.
to see someone who obviously wants to play the game and is actually making an effort to bone up on how to play lose $600 in 6 weeks is tough.
I certainly hope you can get some good advice here.
$1/$2 limit tables or No Limit tables? this would probably make a difference.
I find it tough for me to give advice on ring game play anyway. i suck at ring games. I am sure i would easily go thru this much on a $1/$2 table, so hopefully someone else could suggest some things there for you.
An alternate suggestion from me would be to play some $5 or $10 sit & go tables, i find that the play at these tables is better than the ring game tables in the main and funnily enough this is not a bad thing. less people drawing to the river on you, sucking out with weak starting hands etc. (altho don't get me wrong, this will happen! just maybe not as much)
Also these 1 (and 2 or 3) table tourneys mean you limit the amount you can lose at a sitting, you pay your $5 or whatever and at the very least you are getting an hour or so of entertainment, without risking whatever you would take to a 1/2 table.
I think 6 weeks is not a long time. You need experience, unfortunately this is hard to come by without paying for it. so i would suggest you limit the amount you are paying for your experience for now. either play the s & g tourneys or go down a few limits, the play from the .10/.25 tables aint that much different up to .... i dunno..... $2/$4 maybe? and this will give you experience.
I hope some of this helps and i hope you get a lot more help from people better at advice than myself.
I for one hate to see people with a genuine interest in the game have to give up thru lack of initial success, especially when they are actually trying.
good luck bud and i hope things turn around

Hey..
Thanks for the quick reply! First of all it is not 600 but 400.. of which the first i spend in 2 or 3 days knowing virtually nothing about the game.. so it's not as bad as you think Although it's not good either..
So basicly it's 3500+ hands with $200 at a $1/2 limit ring game..
Maybe the tourney's are a good idea..
Any more suggestions??

Ok there we go, Limit ring games, that is exactly the opposite of my area of expertise!
Hopefully one of our resident limit experts will be along shortly and they can help a lil more than i can perhaps with some advice of what kind of limit for your bankroll

yea i think a good way to improve your game is play some tourneys and some sng's. it will improve your decision making skills because if you bust out, thats it. you cant buy in more unless its a rebuy tourney. but in a cash game you can go to bankroll and add in more money. i think you started out a little bit to high at the 1/2 tables for a beginner. you should try to the lower limits first and then move up. but yea i think sng's are an excellent way to improve your game.

Guys....
Thank you VERY much!!
First of all: SNG is a LOT more action, a lot less chasing to the river and a lot more fun than ring games..!
Not to mention.., finaly i'm getting confident and winning.. (i'm playing the $5/1 sng)
First game ended up 5th, second game 4th, third game 3th and last game I won :D :D

Read this forum. Tons of great advice.
Specifically to low-limit games, be super-tight. If you think you're beat, you probably are. At $1/$2, it's a grind.
SnG's are a good thing, but remember ring and tournament play are different animals.
