hey bro... so what's the deal. are they a kem knock off... or some other type?

at 15 bucks a deck i'd assume (hope) they are a kem knock off, but thought i should check.

it would be nice if someone else stepped up to fill the void that kem left... last i heard it was going to be next year before they fired up production again.

ORG...

I would not go as far as say knock off's as Copag had been around since
like 1902ish. But they have styled their product line after Kem down to
the packaging that looks very much like Kem. We have had a few sample
decks for a couple weeks and I still say Kem is a higher quality but on a
scale of 1-10:

Kem 10
Copag 8 1/2 to 9
Royal 4

The price point will be the winner. If MSRP is $15 you know the "ebay garage stores" will be selling them for $10. They may not bite off much of the Kem buyers once Kem is back online, but they will pick up a lot of the
"paper" users. I for one will be using the "Alo Brasil" Reg Index in most of
my games. Would rather these get beer stained then my Kems.

P.S. How's the "chip tricks" coming? See the new "Classic's" I just got?

Posted Sat Oct 02, 2004 10:33 am GMT by ORGrinder
hehe... only chip trick i do is the shuffle while i'm playing online. but i LOVE the chipcos for that! thanks again.

i did see the clasics. they're very nice. i sooo wish i could afford chipcos. but oh well!!!

what i meant about the cards being knock offs... is are they a plastic card like the KEM... or are they just a super nice plastic coated paper card?

I just got my hands on the new Copag line today.
They are nice. We have used a deck for about 16
hours of play and they look and feel brand new.
Check them out, at 1/2 the price of Kem and good value

Well, it's kind of like an interview with some delightful little movie star: I know selma hayak's gonna plug the movie, but I really want to get her opinion on what Pierce Brosnan is REALLY like...so it's a trade off.

This post didn't go where I wanted...I got all confused...right now I'm thinking about MSPpatton's appearence in from dusk till dawn...head...hurts...

you never explained wht the NEW Copag line was? as far as i can tell, the link you provided to your site is the same all copag designs.

Only the "Export" cards are new at this time. The other 3 designs are
packaging for the U.S. of designs available in their silver/gold lines.
Copag is now doing the actual importing of these cards to the U.S..
Until now all the cards here were imported by vendors out of Brazil.
Cost should now stay stable and supplies will be more readily available
in more than just the ebay/internet markets. There will be more back
and index combinations in the future.

I have used Kem cards for about a year now and play 15-20hrs a week and just used Copag cards for the first time today. They feel almost like Kems. Slightly "cheaper, maybe, but only slightly. I prefer the Kem printed card faces, but overall the Copag is a nice alternative and for the cost (I paid $15 for a double deck) you can't go wrong. I have held off on the Copags because until now they have only been available in Super Index. Well, not any more. I have a nice two deck set of bridge sized, regular index cards. The guys all commented that they were very much like Kems and one guy liked them better. I wouldn't go that far, but I am going to order a couple more sets to have around. The packaging seems a direct rip-off of Kem (unless it is the other way around and I just don't know it.) I have used A+ cards also and these compare well to those as well. A+ are thicker feeling though. I do wish that Copag would work on their card back designs though. I have the Elite 1546 design, which are ok, but could look a little more "expensive." I like the look of the Copags better than the Kem Monaco set I have though, but there is just nothing like a deck of Kem Arrows for my $$$.

Anyway, bottom line is that Copag provides a good and cost effective alternative until U.S. Playing Card Co. gets the Kem line up and running again. I e-mailed Kem the other day, by the way, and the person responding said that they are completely shut down and she did not have anything to offer as to a timetable for the resumation of production. She actually sent me links to a couple of eBay auctions and suggested I go there if I neded Kem cards for the time being. My e-mails to U.S. Playing Card Co. have yet to be returned.

Kem's are not in production? I am amazed that an manufacturer could allow that to happen to a high end product. Sounds like they are switching production to overseas...any idea what's going on?

US Playing Card Co is located in Cinncinatti and word is they are moving all the equipment needed for the production of KEM cards to Ohio. My guess is, once they are up and running, US Playing Card Co. will put their own spin on the cards, new designs and whatnot (higher prices?). Our poker league just switched to all Copags. People seem to like them just fine.

I got my Copag cards today. I haven't used them in a game yet, but I spent a little time shuffling them. I can tell they aren't the same quality as KEM but they are close enough for me. And at the price they are definately worth it. I guess time will tell how they stack up overall.

I got mine also from MSPatton. As stated, not the same quality as Kems, but they are certainly better than any paper cards. The one gripe I have about them is the colors of the face cards - very 'muted' for lack of a better word. Other than that little issue, I like em, and would reccommend them to anyone on a budget. Oh, but make sure you get the normal index - the jumbo index is like having a 21" monitor with a 640x480 resoultion LOL

EDIT: And more props to MS - I ordered the cards on a Wednesday nite - they were here by Saturday, in time for my game. Simply awesome. I'm pretty sold on his service - and will continue to do biz with him in the future.

i really like the copags better than the kems and this maybe cause thewy are now and have no use, but so far i really like em and they are a great proce

I agree that the faces seem dim. It would be nice to have more vibrant faces. Also they just feel, uh, weaker than KEM.

I have actually encountered this in a game. I knew about it and apparently others do to.

With Kems, you can take the aces and kings, place them under a damp towel and lightly press them with a hot iron. The cellulose will break down slightly.

After this treatment the aces and kings are a little flimsier and it's easy to tell when you deal one off the deck if you know what to feel for.

I never went back to this game and have never seen it since. Just a heads up.

Rob

another thing about the Copag is that since they are lighter they stick to your fingers more if you're sweating a bit

I got the poker sized version of these cards, very nice...However, they seem smaller than the normal bicycle poker cards i'm used to...Am I incorrect about that?
