Played the poker room at Northern Lights in Walker, Minnesota last weekend. Small room with 6 tables and only enough players to keep 2 tables going, a 2/4 and a 3/6 holdem.
Anyway, the place is like Cheers…..seemed the dealers knew everyone by name. So I was the new guy and everyone at the table knew it!
I was surprised that I did not need to post a blind bet to take a seat. I actually looked like a rookie there when I sat down and posted. The dealer pushed the 3 chips back to the rail.
I then played some of the craziest 3 hours of poker I have ever seen in a casino. There is no smoking at the tables. So, every other hand or so, the 3-4 smokers at the table would just get up and walk out for a smoke. Come back and just start playing. No re-post. (Of course, right before the blinds would hit them >> puff puff)
There were 2 guys rat-holing their chips. They would put up $20 buck or so and end up “All In” on the hands they played with not enough chips to call the bets, then toss out another $20 bucks worth when they busted!! WOW!
Anyway, I play solid cards and walked away with +$96 with a couple drinks and tips covered too.
Here is my question. Should I have bitched about the smokers not posting after missing a blind? Should I have questioned the rat-holing? I have never seen such relaxed play at a casino.

That's definitely strange the way they handle the blinds when getting up if it's your turn for the blind. If that's the rule there though there's not much you can really do about it. You either have to live with it or not play there.

Just go for a walk every time your blinds are up. That sucks in my opinion, but if everyone else does it you should do it. No reason they should get more of an advantage than you get.

It would certainly seem like a basic rule in any game anywhere that you can't walk on your blinds. I'd ask the floorman what the deal is. I mean, why would anyone pay one ever, if he didn't have to? I played in a Seattle cardroom not too long ago and I didn't have to post to sit and play, so I've seen that before, odd though it seems. But bolting for your blinds? Unbelievable.

Maybe it was just a bad dealer. I was playing at Seneca Niagara and i went to smoke and missed my blind. I came back and no on noticed or made me pot my blind a few times. But i saw the dealer make other people do it.

Yea, like I said, everyone seemed to know each other, pretty laid back. I think if I had said something they may have tightened up. The thing that pissed me off was the rat-holing. These guys were seeing a lot of free cards! All in pre-flop and busting, then out comes another 15-20 chips.
Not a lot of places to play here in Minnesota. Glad we have any at all. LOL!

This place was on highway 2 and 371, about 2 miles south of downtown Walker. I didn't know there was one up in Cass on 200.

1st-only 18 to play at indian casinos and Canterbury.
2nd-NL....hmmm, none at Canterbury yet except tourneys. The next largest room I know of is Black Bear in Carlton, just south of Duluth. I dont know if they have NL or not.
