3 Minute Tourney

16 player tourney at a friend's house. $5 buy-in. Started with 500 in chips. I told a friend before the game that I was going ultra-aggressive and was going to put a kid all-in within the first 10 hands to establish a hard-nose player. Fold the first hand. Second hand I pick up Q-Jo in the small blind, raise it 30. Flop is K-5-10. Open ender. I like it. I check hoping for a bet to check raise on. Get the bet, and I reraise it like 30 more. Kid calls. I figure top pair. Turn is a 9. Check again. Kid bets 100 at me. I move all-in, he calls immediately. Flip my nut straight over, everyone goes, "Ohhhhhh". The kid is stunned. He asks for a count like he lost the hand already, and I say there is another card still.....river is a damned K. Get up from the table fast, and say "Well, that's it." I overhear the kids talking later and they are like you had a 17% of catching that King. To my very rough calculations they had like a 7 or 8% to catch an out. Is that somewhere near the correct odds? That doesn't matter. What got to me is him calling with just two pair, not even the top two. What did he think I had? Personally, I think I would have layed down his hand. I just can't stand really new players making mistakes and drawing out. Someone please tell me what I did wrong here. I just don't know what I did wrong. But the upside is I went on to win 15 bucks playing darts after that.

I'm guess the kid must have had KT since you don't say otherwise he was into that pot way too far!

Sorry, for not telling you what he had. He was holding K-5o.

First of all, he shouldn't have called a preflop raise with K5o. Thats what you should be pissed about. But that's not the point. He flopped 2 pair, that's a pretty strong hand so I think he was trying to get as many of your chips as he could. When a new player like that flops 2 pair, I don't think they would fold no matter what showed up on the board.

You did raise preflop, so I'd have a hard time putting you on QJ. Once the 9 came on the turn, I'd more than likely think you were bluffing. So even though he might be a new player, I can't blame him for going all in.

After all, you got what you wanted, he put in all his chips. Unfortunately, this was one of the times somebody could catch a miracle card to beat you.
