Anyone seen, felt, played with or heard anything about these new chips on 5star deals?? They look decent, decent weight, colors(edge spots) and cost.
Just thought I would see if anyone has them yet. Otherwise I'll pick up a sample and tell everyone else.

5star has a link to customization for these chips, which are totaly wrong, they cant even be hotsamped.
Anybody know somewhere else that sells them, i like these chips but would want the customization (denominations) on them?

I just ordered samples of them from 5star so I'll get back and tell everyone what I think of em. Looks like they may have a recessed center for sticker inserts. I also noticed nevada jacks is carrying them as well.

I think 5stardeal's online sticker customization process is down at the moment. However, when it is fixed, you can customize your own inserts to put on these chips at the same time when you order the chips on their website. Or you can print your own labels, as discussed in this forum.
Yes. These chips do have a recess which allows you to put stickers on them without increasing the thickness of the chip.
What do I think about the chip? I think it is time for people to upgrade from their 11.5g chips.

awesome thanks.
Does anybody have a sample of these sort of chips with the sticker inlay? Is the sticker inlay nice or will it come off easily? Should i stick to hotstamping instead of teh custom inlay ?
thanks

Here is how the chips look like with stickers on them:
Personally I would prefer stickers over hotstamping. You can always change the stickers in the future if you come up with some new ideas for the inlay.

where did you get yours from with the sticker inlays? 5star deosnt seem to allow it and i am really looking for these chips with sticker inlays.

They just released the NEXGEN 8100 series River Poker Tour chips. Only three colors at the moment though.

These look really nice. I just hope the quality isnt like the 13g "Casino" chips.
The 13g reminds me of the All-in chips. Just horrible

You also don't like the all-in chips? I recently obtain a few samples of the all-in chips. And they look like this:
That is bad.
Posted Thu Oct 14, 2004 11:26 pm GMT by Oumagic
Many have said that the 13 gram "Casino" chip is a great chip for the money. It is supposed to feel better than any 11.5gram chip. I can't believe that it would be compared to the "All-in" chip since they are a lot different (no metal inserts). I also ordered samples of this chip to compare to the 13gram and 9 gram chip from pokerchipmart.com I want one that I can put my own label on...
Posted Thu Oct 14, 2004 11:27 pm GMT by PaulsonChips
They are REALLY bad, from start to finish. You should of posted the yellow chip. The markings look like water color thats been painted on. The design is just horrible.
The only positive thing I can say about these is that is cheap, and they sound pretty good when stacked!
Posted Thu Oct 14, 2004 11:43 pm GMT by Oumagic
Here is what www.pokerchipreviews.com had to say about the 13 gram "Casino" and I have read other similar reviews. From the looks of it, these new chips are better looking, next generation of the 13 Gram...
The other chips on the picture are their heavier 13 gram composites. What these give up in cool colors and graphics to the 9 grammers, they more than make up for in 'feel'. The entire chip has a semi-soft feel and they make a pleasant sounding 'thud' when handled. And the extra weight makes a huge difference. (Note: The construction on these guys is exactly like the 'cheap' plastic chips. They have a metal slug in them to help weigh them down. However, the surrounding clay-composite material has a much better feel than their crappy plastic cousins). A pretty good chip, which suddenly becomes a very good chip when you look at their cost. The only major detractor to the chips were that the lighter chips were easily marked up my scratching a darker colored chip on them.
WEIGHT: 12.8-13.1 grams.

QUALITY: 7
LOOKS: 4
If these "Las Vegas Edge" are indeed just an update of the 13 gram; I think that they'll be great. They obviously look better in the pictures. I already have a label designed to go on a blank chip with recessed center.
Paulson: I'm not trying to disregard what you are saying. I have seen what you are selling and admit that any chip looks bad compared to those. However, on ebay your chips are @ $1.75 each while these new "cheapos" are at $0.28 each. I add a label and am @ $0.35 each; more in my price range...if I had the money those Paulson Vineyards are the bomb. However, I'd probably still design my own and go with some Chipcos...
Posted Thu Oct 14, 2004 11:53 pm GMT by PaulsonChips
Yea, you have a point with the price range Oumagic!.
However, if I had a budget, I would go with the 9g superdiamonds, or the 9g Lasvegas (both from pokerchipmart) or the sopranos (5star) or either the crown or dice 10g from (thepokerchipcompany) than to spend it on these. But once again, GET SAMPLES and see for yourself! :D

The NEXGEN chips (8000 and 8100 series) all have recess which you can put your label on.
I don't know why people think that chips with "metal inserts" is an inferior products. Several of the major casino chips makers offer metal insert chips to the casinos. Just because some of the 11.5g chips from China are terrible in quality does not make all metal insert chips bad.
For example. The 13g CASINO chip and All-in chip. They are basically made of the same material. The only difference is that one has a metal insert, and the other does not. Does it make the 13g chip an inferior chip than the all-in chip? I don't think so. (well.. someone might think both of them are inferior chips. )

I think you are confused with the 13g chips that are reviewed at www.pokerchipreviews.com with the 13g CASINO chips from 5stardeal. They are different chips, just the same weight. I don't think John has reviewed the chips from 5stardeal yet.
Posted Fri Oct 15, 2004 12:08 am GMT by PaulsonChips
They both have a slug in the middle. The ones from "Poker n' stuff" (basically from pokerchipmart since they actually manufacture these) are better quality but they dont feel as soft and "claylike" as the ones from 5star. Overall I would still go for pokernstuff 13gs since I CANT STAND the way the "casino" 13gs look. (Like a kid painted some playdough with water colors)
just my opinion
Posted Fri Oct 15, 2004 12:16 am GMT by Oumagic
you are right, I was looking at the wrong 13 Gram chip on his reviews. However he did review it and agreed with what I had said and have read elsewhere. Here is his actual review of 13 gram casino
'Casino' Clay-Composite: This is the solid green chip with black edge spots seen in the top two pictures. This isn't a bad chip on any scale, but when compared to the 'stickered' chips above, it's a step down. Feel is good, as is the sound made when handling. Just visually not as striking as We Do It All Vegas's 'stickered' chips.
WEIGHT: 12.9 grams.
FEEL: 7.5
QUALITY: 8
LOOKS: 7
I have been looking for chips for close to 2 months, had even received some of the samples that Paulson...suggested. However, none were quite right with the look/feel/need for recessed center. I found one company and thought I had an order placed. Sent them artwork after getting their sample with custom labels. After sending my credit card number, I received an e-mail saying they are not doing custom orders for the forseeable future and would not take my order. Shoot, if I trusted them, I'd order their blanks. www.casino4you.com was their name; I have not had any charges put on my card...

UR right about that. If the manufacturer puts enough real clay around the slug then it wont have that dreaded metallic washer "Clink"
However, real compression mold clay chips CANNOT contain a metal slug. It just wont work with the machines. (what this is significant of, I dont know, just a fact )

I totally agree with your evaluation on the looks of the 13 Gram Casino. I did not like the 13gram Casino looks but these in this thread look much better from the photos. If they feel the same, I think they might be my answer. I have e-mailed and called pokerchipmart more than once trying to get samples of the "9 gram Real Clay" blank samples because I thought they might be the best option. However, I can't get them to send me anything or return my e-mails...

these were the ones that I was referring that you "suggested" most do not have the looks/feel/recessed center that I need. I have gotten many samples or simply ruled them out by their looks in photos. I was interested in the 9g Vegas blanks, but they have never sent me samples even when I offered to pay for 5-10

obviously I have seen them and liked them or i wouldn't have tried to place an order and give them my credit card number; sorry, still a little bitter. They are almost identical to thepokerchipcompany; however they actually put labels on them that are really nice as opposed to hot stamp and thepokerchipcompany do not have recessed center. I guess I should say "used to put labels on" because they flaked on me when I ordered. The "Player's Choice" looked really nice with their label on and is what I tried to purchase...

seriously though, Just a word of advice. Its all about how a chip handles and sounds.
You will find yourself trading up over and over again until you get that REAL clay chip that you love. JUST SPEND THE MONEY! ITS WORTH IT.
Here is how I convinced myself of spending my first buck a chip.
I can pass it down to my kids!
I can win the money I spent back in a couple night of cards!
I am worth it!
its my brithday, christmas, thanksgiving present to myself for the for the next 2 years!
It makes the games that I host a lot more enjoyable!

That's why I have been looking so long. Not in a hurry to spend @ $800 on a set if I can find some that look and feel good for $300. I will keep collecting the samples until I give up and order my set from pokerchips.com or find the perfect budget set (I hope these 12G feel good because they look good IMO). I've been playing with the cheapest garage sale chips for 10 years; I don't trade up often but don't play often either...

They have been the best customer service so far. However, I really want a label and his nicest chips do not have the recessed center. His "Sopranos" style was nice and a little recessed, but I don't think it was enough.
Sorry all for hijacking this thread with all of the other topics. I will post more here when I get the samples of these NEXGEN 12g Las Vegas Edge. I ordered 10/13...

I think these 'next gen' chips coming out from a variety of vendors have a ton of promise. I received my first sample of a some today. While the chips design and looks are simple, the feel and sound of them are outstanding. When you add in the fact that you can get a set of 500 for under $70.00, that's just awesome.
I am *eagerly* awaiting my next few sets of samples from other vendors on these types of chips.
Something to think about for those shopping in the mid to low price range of chips.

i got the 8000 samples today from 5star. I dont know how else to explain these except they feel like they are made out of rubber. They feel a little too heavy (for me anyway), and a little too slick. I was very disappointed as i thought for sure this was going to be the middle of the road chip that we all needed. But i just dont see them being any better than the standard 11.5 dice chips. The edge spots i think are decent, but the slick inlay and overly heavy and rubbery feel just dont do it.
I still like the chipco classics the best out of all my samples that i have gotten ( a lot so far).

not really comparing apples to apples when comparing these to Chipcos. I should have my samples today or Saturday. Considern I've tried most of the budget chips, I'm interested how these are. The slick inlay will be covered in my case by a matte finish label...

I now have the Next Gen 12 gram chip in stock. It is very much like the 13 gram chip. In face I like the 13 gram chip better. It will take the Chinese many years before they perfect a true clay chip.

Thanks for all who stole my thread!!! I have received my samples from 5star for the the NEXGEN8000 chip and overall I am not too impressed.
PLUS's
*Nice edgespots
*Good sound
*Looks like clay(from a distance)
*room for an insert
MINUS's
*rubbery and slippery all at the same time
*don't stack well
I guess thats it for the minus's, so in hindsight, for the money this is a hell of a chip. But its NOT CLAY and your not paying for clay so shut the hell up! sorry overall i like the chip. its a step up from the 13 gram casino chip but far from being the NEW CLAY!!!
Loved the posts here guys keep it up. But stop hijacking my threads!!!!!!

Wow, thanks... I was about one click from buying a set of the 12g LVs when the rubbery/slippery comments started showing up.
So how rubbery are they? Do they twist if you bend them LOL or is it more of a texture thing? How slippery? They're really as bad to stack as dice chips?
Posted Mon Oct 18, 2004 11:38 pm GMT by Oumagic
Got my samples today and gotta reiterate what has already been said. They look good and sound good. The problems I had were that they were slick and a little heavy. I am getting samples of matte labels done and may still get these due to the fact that most of the slippery part was the inlay. They are in my top 2 for budget chips for my requirements (1" recessed inlay). Right now I am leaning toward pokerchipmart.com 9gram "Real Clay" I prefer it being too light than too heavy. The feel/sound/price is a little better. I'll just have to see what looks better with the label and if it solves the slippery feeling. My favorite budget chips do not have the place for the label so I have to compromise a little...

I just got 250 NEXGEN 8000's. For the price , great chip. Nothing like those
13 gram hockey pucks. I dont think they are slick at all, almost no difference then my 6 year old Paulsons. They stack great, shuffle great, and yes they are a little heavy but I've played in casinos with chips this heavy. just my .02
Posted Wed Oct 27, 2004 8:48 pm GMT by Biglickn'Bigslick
I also ended up buying a set of NexGen 8000 chips....for the price I couldn't go wrong. Got a set of 1000 for under 200 bucks. Great for tourney's and they look better than any of the cheaper 11.5 grams out there. Good deal for the cash.

^ LOL, wow, nice. Get that on the first try?
I got a sample too. Yes, they do feel weird, I'd describe them as waxy feeling. They feel hard and make clinking kinda sounds like you'd expect a poker chip to when you use them but you can dig your thumbnail right into the edge of the chip. Although I think they'd be fine as long as you don't do that, and why would you?
It's unfortunate that their marketing is emphasizing a similarity to clay chips, no way you'd mistake these for clay. Even my "good" diamonds and some composites I've used have a stone-like feel to them that these just don't. I do like them better than dice chips though.
Yeah that 1000 chip deal is killer, was going to ask about that but found it myself. (Hint if anyone else is interested: e_ _ y.)

hey Biglickn'Bigslick,
where can you get 1000 for under $200?. 5star's ebay store no longer has the $149.99 deal. Any response would be great, i already have samples and i am ready to buy.
Posted Sat Nov 06, 2004 5:58 pm GMT by Biglickn'Bigslick
I bought two sets of a 1000 of the NexGen chips for tournament play and absolutely love the looks of them. I'd say probably the best cheap chip on the market right now....they still are a little slick but they are heavy enough to compansate for that.
As far as the ebay auction up I tried to find it again and could not. You might want to call 5star and tell them you saw the auction and maybe they will offer them at the same price. I doubt it though because they are selling sets of 500 at that price now. I wish I would have bought more sets myself and resold them on ebay again splitting them into two sets. but I got a killer set for big tourneys now!

Oumagic,
which 9 gram arey ou talking about?
this one?
http://www.pokerchipmart.com/pokerChips9GramClayBlank.html
i was about to oder thr 650 set from 5star (the las vegas nexgens) but i am holding because the deal was not as awesome as the Ebay 1000 chip deal that they dont have anymore?
I was looking the the pokerchipmart site but it never says htey have a recessed center,so was wondering if u can confirm that,as i am in Asia and sending samples will cost me a fortune. I just want the best overall looks and feel for the money and it seems to me its between this new chip which has sharper colors and the pokrechip mart chip. However, i just dunon which cpokermart chip exactly.
Thanks for any help in this.
