I went down to AC for the day. One hand, I had pocket 6's, and the flop was AK6. I bet out, and got raised, a calling station cold called, and I 3 bet. I bet the turn, and the player who raised me on the flop said "I have a pair of aces, but I don't think I can beat you." I said something back, I don't remember what, but I think it tipped him off that I had him beat. Both players folded. Later on there were three 4's on board, and he looked at me and said "I know you don't have it." (but I did).
Anyway, I didn't think much of it at the time, but thinking back, it is obvious that the point of all his chit chat was to gain information on what I might be holding. On line players aren't used to this kind of thing, and might not recognize it when it happens. But it is definately something to be on guard against when you play in a live game.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. You thought he liked you as a person? Anybody talks to you at a poker table, they're trying to play poker with their mouth. Even if they mean what they're saying, they're ALSO trying to get information...

OF COURSE he was trying to gain information about what you were holding. he'd be foolish if he wasn't. 8)

This is when I just shut up, sit cold faced, and say NOTHING. Last tourney I was at in fact, it was cold so I had my winter jacket on, which I used "unabomber" style, zipped it all up and pulled my hat down. Worked too, they called me, and I had the nuts =p

I'm feeling a bit of vitriol.
I know I played the sucker, but I wanted to share my experience so that the online players who are going to a casino for the first time will know to keep a look out.
You try to do a good deed and you get your nose rubbed in sh1t. Try and spread some love instead, you know?

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but I never shut up at the table. I'm always talking about something. Usually random shit. It get's the guys that are trying to be serious to crack up and laugh a little. I don't know if it puts them off their game at all, but they never ask me to stop and they always invite me back to play. I place in the money almost every single time I play with these guys.

i guess it depends what limits you play at, i play at 2-4 and i talk quite a bit, many times when i hold the nuts i will tell the table im betting my ace high flush or im betting my ace high straight or im betting my fullhouse. Everyone will call thinking your bluffing, i then do it again on the river again everyone will call, then i lay my hand down face up and say ok can anyone beat my fullhouse or flush. and they all muck. of course u can only do this with the nuts, and if you think you can only do it once or so, i must of did it 6-7 times when i had the nuts and each time everyone cept maybe 1 or 2 out of the 5-6 left in on the turn called. I wouldnt try this in limit, or tournys though. But at 2-4 its more or less a casual game most people dont even know how to play, i give the impression im a very loose player every once in a while if im up i play a pure shit hand if im in late position, knowing the people left to act never raise. Then the first time u hit something with the shit, just show it down when u win, everyone thinks you play anything. Then just tighten back up, and play only premium hands.
