Expected Win Rate for Starting Hands |

I've seen the multitude of calculators out on the net but I've yet to see one (or even a chart) of expected win rate for certain starting hands. Some of my poker books make reference to win rates such as "97s against 5 opponents has an expected win rate of 20%". (I think that's from Carson and I think he also makes reference to Turbo Texas Holdem and running simulations).
(Some beginner logic to follow here)
It would also seem that as the number of opponents drops, the strength of your pocket cards goes up, right? So if following the above example is correct, if you have 97s with 5 opponents and if you could always be sure of getting 4-1 odds or better on each bet you make, then you would want to play this hand to the end. You should win 20% of the hands and you're always getting at least 20% (4-1) value on each and every game. ITLR (In The Long Run) of course.
So is this logic logical?
So does anyone have a handle on this or can direct me to a good source or reference?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com
