I was playing in a no-limit hold 'em tournament at my local casino. In tournament play, I normally play very tight, with the goal of allowing others to bust out and move closer to the final table (made it once already this month to the FT, finished in the money..)..
Two nights ago, in the tournament, the blinds were $400-$800, I was dealt a pair of sevens. I was seated in seat 4 and to be honest, I don't remember now how far off the button I was. When the betting came to me, this was the final round before the blinds went up to $500-$1000. I decided that sevens were worth trying to steal the blinds with. I raised to $2000. The person next to me folded, the next player called the bet and the player next to him called as well. Darn, I was now hoping for a good flop. The flop came 9c Qh and 4s. I checked and the other player bet $10,000. The other player called that bet, the call would would have put me almost all in. ******I folded*******Turn came nothing and the river produced another 7. The player that bet 10 grand before, went "all in" and the other player folded, I never saw the cards. Was folding the right thing to do? I live by the belief that learning from a mistake is a good thing and regreting moves will drive you crazy, but I think it was a good lay-down, was I wrong? Thanks.
BTW, I busted out of the tournament about 15 hands later - this was the tightest players I've seen to date - we started with 6 tables and 3 hours later, we still had 4 in action.

don't ever dwell on what you woulda had if you hadn't folded, it's not worth the aggravation. i don't blame you for laying that down. i think it was the right play, especially since you basically would have been all-in and that's not a hand i would feel comfortable showing down.
