I signed up for a No Limit's Hold em Tournament that is raising money for charity. It's being run by a casino that normally runs Tournaments. It was a $200 buy in. I have no idea how much chips that gets me? Is it normally the $200 in chips (equal to the buy in)? Or something different? Also how does this work. Do you play until you are the last one at your table with money then get moved to another table or what? What is the normal elimination format? There will be a max of 700 players.
I know this probably sound pretty basic to most of you who have played tournament before, but hopefully you can offer answers for me. I've played allot of poker just never in a tournament.
When I signed up their was no information about minimum bets or format of play. Any info on basic multi-table tournament play would be appreciated.
Also can someone difine "rounds".
Thanks,
Shadow

That really can vary, it's unlikely that you will get $200 of chips but u never know.

If they are, for example, tables of 10, your table will play until it is 2 short (eg 8 people left). At this point, someone will be moved from another table of 10 to yours to make it 9 and 9. Similarly, you may get moved from a table of 10 to a table of 8 to even things up. Tables are usually never allowed to have a discrepancy of more than one player apart from when there are 2 tables left and they are getting down to the last 10 participants.

As it's no limit, the min bet will be the value of the big blind and there will be no maximum bet. Play will progress the same as a NL ring game and after a set number of hands/set amount of time, you will go up a level of blinds. At the start of each new level, the blind values will increase. This may be wot they are calling rounds but more likely is that it describes a betting round. Eg directly after the flop, there is a 'round' of betting before the turn card is dealt.
Hope that helps a bit!
