I just tried my 4th night of casino poker at Foxwoods. Seemed fun. Though as a beginner I think I piss alot of people off. Even at the 2-4 limit tables. I always seem to get stuck near the guy who is the "poker expert" and complains every time I hit a strait or get lucky on the river. Dont get me wrong...I know that playing crap hands ALL the time will eventually break you, but sometimes I just feel lucky and go for it. I cant explain it, it just works for me.
Also I enjoy just the actual playing of the game. I have the extra money to play with at this time and can "pay to learn lessons" so to speak. I am trying to get better and also play tighter and better hands. But is there really a need to play tight at such a low limit game? The first time I went I played tight and I noticed that the tables were full of loose players. So I changed my game up and played loose as well just to have some fun. Well I started winning left and right. One guy started calling me "Sanford & Son" just because I was playing junk hands. But I kept winning.
Seems to me that playing really tight and trying to follow all the rules that you read about in the poker books just dont really seem to apply when playing these lower limit tables. Also seems pointless to try and bluff when anyone can call you for $2.
Its a bit of a quandry when you want to get better but you arent ready to go up to the higher limit tables yet where the "good" players are.
Overall I am having fun and learning more everytime I go. Foxwoods seems like a good place to be for poker!

Foxwoods is fun. It's the only casino I've ever played poker at. You can afford to loosen up your standards a little at 2/4 because you will usually have enough callers to make it worth the while. But don't get too loose. I'm a consistent winner at 2/4 because I play patiently and avoid getting in over my head with questionable hands and draws.
Oh, and say hi to Bill next time your there. I don't really know him, but he's always there whenever I play. He's the little Jewish guy with the newspaper and the glasses with one arm on them. :D

I agree with the fact that you need to loosen up at low-limit tables. I play completely different at $1-2 tables than I do in No-Limit tourneys and home games. When you have 7 or 8 players seeing a flop, it doesn't matter if you have AA or J 8. There is no bluffing involved. I always will see a cheap flop with suited or connected cards. I use to wait for big Aces or big pairs, but would usually get beaten by straights on the river or someone holding 8 3 of diamonds. Position is important. I won't play a suited 9 4 in early position, but I will call in late postion if its cheap.

I play at Foxwoods a lot. I quickly learned that the $2/$4 hold'em is a nightmare - "No Fold'em Hold'em" as I've heard the dealers call it.
Play $1/$2 No Limit if you want to have some (relatively) cheap fun - $100 max buyin so you're still not staking too much, but you get the thrill of no limit (and the chance to make $1000 in a couple hours - try doing that at $2/$4!). Only way to go. I have recently moved up to the $5/$5 $200 minimum buyin tables (which seemed insane to me the 1st time I sat at a $2/$4 table)...much more aggressive game, but solid tight/aggressive play is generally rewarded...
