Chips

I have a question about chips. I bought 1000 Dice Style clay poker chips on ebay. There are great. Nice 11.5 gram, nice feel and a love them.

Now my tournements have really got big lately so I wanted 1000 more. They guy I got these from didn;t have anymore. I went to another guy. These seemed like the same chips.

But when I got them they seemed like plastic. They didn't feel right or sound right.

When I asked him about it, he responed, "Our Vdr. adv. these chips are made of clay composite w/ABS material. However, all the market selling out there are the same as us which is called clay composite w/ABS."

Does anyone know if there are 2 different types of Dice Style chips?

Thanks

I wouldn't doubt that there's even more than 2 types. In order to make sure you get the same chips, you need to get samples first.

There are at least three types that I know of.

I've got 6 different types sitting here in front of me.

1 super high-end composite.
1 medium grade composite w/ an insert.
4 plastic chips w/ inserts where either the design is slightly different or there is a clear difference in the plastic used.

I know your reviews are dedicated to mid-high end chips, but I'd like reviews of all chips.

I am so tempted to shell out .75+/chip because of the great designs and quality, but I when I step back and think about it I just cannot justify that kind of cash for a twice a month game.

I'd really like concise reviews of the 11.5g's

There's no point in reviewing the low-end, plastic dice chips. They are basically all the same. Slight differences in quality and plastic used.

More importantly, you can now purchase a fantastic set of 'low-end' Next Gen composite dice chips that ****SMOKE**** the regular plastic dice chips for LESS money!!!! I've seen these chips online for as little as $40-$50 for a set of 500. If you can survive without edge spots, these chips are a must have.

Cheers,
John

John,

are you talking about the NexGen series 8000 on 5star or a different set?

Thanks Everyone. The thing is, I these were listed as Clay chips but they are obviously plastic. The otherones seem like clay all the way and are great. He clams his plastic chips have a clay center. I doubt this. I think they are just plastic with a medal insert. I need information because I'm trying to get my money back.

Thanks

dberg,

No. I haven't personally handled those, and they are more expensive. I'm talking about the new 10 gram, single color, 'Dice' chips. Available at a variety of suppliers, including 5Star.

Cheers,
John

The problem with that is most of those chips come from different manufacturers in China, with no notable brands or classification to distinguish the variations, and even the same vendor might stock different grades depending on price and availability.

A couple months ago, a friend asked me to help her buy a cheap set as a gift for her husband (she wanted to spend under $80). I checked rgp for a reliable eBay seller, kept low bidding on that particular seller's auctions for a few days, and finally ended up with a set of 500 11.5s (customized color breakdown) with a pretty nice case for $34 + $20 shipping (which was fast).

After discovering (and enjoying) the chip fetishists on this forum and 2+2, I feel like a philistine for buying dice slugs for my friend, but hey, they work just fine for a home game, and he loves them.
