whatcha think, is this a hand to limp and see the flop (maybe with a 3-4x rr) or an all in hand? or just a buy the pot hand?

Like everything, it's situational. Heads up/suited, all my chips are probably going in there.
In a general sense, I prefer to put a good raise in there and see the flop. If I happen to just win the blinds, that's o.k. too.

the best answer, is the answer that is always the best for questions like this when it comes to poker...
that is that "it depends"
last night, some clown moved all in and i was holding AQs. this was about 3 hands into the trny. i figured i had a better hand than he did, but chose to fold as the return i would be getting on my $$ at that point wasn't worth the risk of me putting all my chips on the line only to have this nimrod outdraw me with whatever crap hand he was holding. everyone folded so i don't know what he had, but regardless, that early in the tournament i believe it was the right move to make.
so... playing AK is like playing any other hand. it's only good when you play it at the right time.

it could be any of these depending on the situation. if there's only one or two other players left at the table, then it's an all-in hand, but at a full table it probably wouldn't be. and so on.

Depends on the game too, if it is a tourney, I don't think I'd be happy getting my chips in the middle unless the table was short handed and it was late in the tourney.
In cash games, if it's suited, I'm usually willing to put them in the middle if it comes to it preflop as long as I don't think I'm up against Aces or Kings. I'll take the Queens coin flip most of the time.
It's a hand I'd rather come in raising and see the flop, but if tested in a cash game, I might just put them all in there and get 5 cards.

I will say if I have a maniac on the table with me and he keeps going crazy preflop and I keep getting AK suited, we're going to be flipping coins all night.
I had AK 5 out of 6 hands in one session (home game NL cash) about a month ago and we got them all in there all 5 times. End result? I ended up being up about $20 overall, but it was exciting....I was up against Jacks, Queens, Jacks, A,Q and Kings. I won about 50% of the time, but never to a big stack, always a smaller stack, so even when I lost, I didn't get broke.
That session did get me thinking seriously about how to play AK in extreme situations, but my game has changed since, and I don't feel the pressure I did before to have a game plan.
Now about a week ago I got AK 5 times in 10 hands. I only got all my chips in the middle once, and that was after the flop, when this guy and I got into a pissing match, I didn't even have a draw, but I kept re-raising him, until he was out of chips, I was positive he had a small pair, but I felt like going to war with him....hit my Ace on the river to break his pocket 5's.

Try reraising with you AK. Ak is a really good hand against 1 or 2 opponents, but doesnt fare as well against 3 or more. If you are just calling a raise that means you either didnt raise to begin with or you are in a late position. If someone raises before you reraise and try to get heads up against him. The worst thing you can do with this kind of hand is allow many players to see the flop. When you hit an A or K on the flop you should have a really strong hand on the majority of flops.

Dont call w/ AK. Raise with it, or fold.
