Ok, this is my last post (for the day), I promise!
If you have a home game, what kind of starting money do you give everyone? I'm going to try to start a home game, but I want to make sure that the game lasts at least an hour or two. I have a chip set and figured I would have white = $100 (instead of $1) just because it sounds better. I figure I could follow celebrity poker showdown and give everyone $10,000. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. I could also raise the blinds every 30 minutes. I guess I'm just looking for some advice here since I haven't got my game going yet. Also, what kind of payout system do you use (considering maybe 6-10 players)? I was thinking 70%, 20%, 10%.
Thanks once again,
jason

Starting chips really don't matter as long as they are in line with the blinds. For example, if you give everybody 10k in chips and you set the blinds at 5/10, you'll be in for a long game. A big chip stack I find makes the game more "fun" for most people, just set the blinds accordingly. What I mean is, my friends don't realise a starting stack of 1000 chips and blinds of 10/20 is the same game as a starting stack of 10k if the blinds are 100/200. They just have more fun with 10k !
For payouts I like to do %50, %30, %20 for 7-10 people. If only 6 played, I'd make it %60, %40. I try to make sure the lowest payout always gets back more than the entry fee.

With 6-10 players I would give everyone $1000-$2000 dollars in chips. Start at $25/$50 blinds and raise them every 30 minutes. If the games run too long you can reduce the starting amount. We start with $1500 and the games last 2-3 hours. Payouts that we usuall do are money back to second and the rest to first unless there are 9 or more people. Then we do money back to third, two or three times the buy in to second and the rest to first. It get's adjusted obviously the more people that play, but it seems wrong to me for second place to not at least break even.
