No Limit poker book?

Posted Sat Oct 23, 2004 2:42 pm GMT by Ciso_B
Hi all , I am mainly a NL player though i sometimes play 1-2,2-4...I was thinking of getting a book to improve my poker, anyone got any reccomendations?

I know Super System is an obvious choice but i heard it's a bit out dated and won't necessarily improve my online play.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Read super/system regardless, it is the book to beat. True, it has no online section, but the majority of books do not.

Championship Pot Limit and No Limit Hold'em is pretty good, if you don't mine playing very tight. It's helped me a lot in terms of knowing when to fold. Harrington's book is coming out soon, but that will probably also be very very tight.

When you're playing against idiots, playing tight won't win you many tournaments. It'll get you in the money, but that's it.

Hey:

Sklansky, Sklansky and more Sklansky. His books are so dry that they tend to put you to sleep (unless you are a mathematician). I also found that when I first read them maybe 25% of the theories and math actually sink in. However, I've found that the more I play the more I understand his books. I make it a practice to go back and re-read them periodically.

His obsessive focus on numbers and theory will really help build the right foundation so that, with practice, your game can move up to the next level. (At least in my admittedly slightly ignorant opinion).

If you want specific titles to try, I have them all at home and can post them for you just let me know.

I just picked up the Championship No-Limit Pot limit book last night and I like it to this point.

I know that I "study" poker more than the 15-20 different poeple that I regularly play against, but will a more sophisticated style of play work against other hacks?

Super System by Doyle...

All Sklansky's books...

I also like Play poker like the pro's by Phill Hellmuth.
More begginer approach but still vey good.
