How do you play KQ?

Posted Sun Oct 31, 2004 4:14 pm GMT by TheDudeChad
I find that KQ is a one of my weak spots. I think that I overplay it/play it wrong preflop.

How do you play KQ from: (Assume no raise in front of you)

A. UTG
B. Early Position
C. Middle Position
D. Late Position
E. SB/BB

How about to a raise? I won't call a big raise with it preflop, but I do usually call 2x or 3x the BB looking to hit top pair.

KQ sucks. I will almost always limp w/ it unless in late position, then make a small raise. A2 is ahead of you preflop.

in tournys ill ONLY, ONLY playhigh cards, and pairs. depending on my positon on the table, and who, and how many people are in the pot.

A. utg- ill limp in. maybe call a small raise, but if theres more than one raise, ill fold it.

B. early position- same thing

C. middle postion- depending on whos in it, and how many, ill call two raises (depending on size). maybe even raise it if everyone limps. if its suited k,q

D. late positon (i.e. cuttoff seat/button)- ill raise if there are only limpers, and who i know is going to fold. and i may reraise to steal the blinds.

it all depends on what your opponents do.

E. SB/BB - Call or raise to try to steal the other blind.

In a cash game
A. UTG - call
B. Early Position - call
C. Middle Position - call
D. Late Position - call or raise
E. SB/BB - call

I play mostly limit ring games. I'll almost always see the flop with it in an unraised pot, but will occasionally fold KQo under the gun. I never call a raise with it unless I'm BB or I know the raiser to be a maniac. You're dominated by AA, KK, QQ, AK and AQ, (the raiser probably has one of these) and you're a dog to any other hand people typically raise with. Even if you hit your K or Q, you can't be to confident about it. Then again, I'm adverse to cold-calling raises in general.

UTG: call.
Early: raise if I think a raise will thin the field, if not, call.
Mid: Raise 1st in, and maybe with one limper, otherwise call.
Late: Raise 1st in or with a single limper. Raise if I think I can buy the button.
Button: Raise 1st in or with a single limper, otherwise call.
SB: call, fold to a raise, unless the raiser is stealing (occasionally call a raise with KQs).
BB: call a single raise, fold to 2.
