Posted Mon Nov 01, 2004 5:54 am GMT by Kid Krow
I was flipping through the channels the other day and saw this poker tourney on Fox Sport Network. there on their table was an in the table card shuffler. I waited till the end of the show to find out if the mention it and sure enough they did. wen't and found their site and was blown away.

They don't sell to the public.hen it got me thinking. I think I may be able to fabricate my own in the table card shuffler if I put my mind to it.

My question would be:

Any of you Build them your self poker Table people out there be intrested in a product like that? Not very exspencive I'm sure.

anyways just checking to see if theres a market for it.

I had the same idea a few weeks ago when watching Poker stars as well and was surprised they would advertise to the public but not sell to the public? But yeah I think its a terrific idea if you have the ability and knowhow by god get er done....I'll buy one. Wink

Oh and where is your poker room in Utah.....?I work for the Union Pacific and will be out there in Utah for some training and would love to check out your poker room.

Hell yes I've been lookin for a middle of the road shuffler. The ones @ teh casinos are $14k if I recall correctly. I'd spend a couple hundred bucks on one no problem.

I think that with the increased exposure and popularity of poker, someone will make a middle of the road card shuffler for home games.

The casino quality card shufflers have a bunch of unnecessary (IMO) features like the ability to "count" the cards in the deck, etc.....

Quick! Someone build a mid-grade card shuffler for us!!!

Yeah, I saw those a few weeks ago at the Chumash casino in Santa Ynez, CA. I think they're really cool and would be a good idea. I do think that counting the cards is a really good feature too. I count the cards often just because I'm paranoid, but every now and then one ends up on the floor. Plus if people see you counting they will be less likely to palm one off the table.

Alright... OK... I'll get right on it... I'm already getting started with a basic design and specs... It's gonna take me a while... I figure a unit that will cost roughly 75 bucks but don't quote me on that just yet...

I too agree with Both ya guys there. I want something that will shuffle the deck, split the deck, shuffle again then split it again and one final shuffle automaticly. then when the thrid cycle is done spitts the deck out on a retrival shoot just under the table on the dealer seat. If I can get that to work in less then 15 second, and work properly for those 15 seconds, I'll conciter it a gift from god. I'll paton it and sell the hell out of it...

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress if I can. beside after getting the room finished, I need a new project to spend my settlement money/disability checks on. might as well be something that can actuly make me money...

I don't know if you need it to work in 15 seconds -- The way the one at the Chumash works is at the end of the hand the 2nd deck is ready. They open the shuffler and take out the deck that has been shuffled and put the last deck in. While the hand is playing the shuffler is working on the other deck. You just switch decks every hand.

I know I was thinking about that... the thing is it could do that and still work with two decks. 15 seconds is the "I'm gonna put it through hell to see how it handles it" phase...

i would definately buy one of these things. $100 is probably my limit though. try to make a replica of the ones at the casinos. i think that is the best way to go.

yea... 100 seems to be about what I would buy one for. the idea here is to make one that can be built into the table top it self. it would have to have the cool flip open door and would have to run a cycle once the door shuts. I figure there is gonna have to be a space for the used deck and one for the fresh deck retrival. that way you place the used deck in, grab the fresh deck and go on gamming.

I've also though about the the cycle pattern. there should be 10 riffles, right? I mean after 10 theres really no telling just where all the cards lay.

I want it also to be fast as hell. I figure 3 secongs a riffle should be right about where you want it so that in half a minute you'll have a fresh deck ready to go and waiting.

The unit it self is not gonna be all that small. my figure on space is about 5"x8"x4". the housing is gonna need alot of gears, wheels, drivers, and switches. I'm pretty sure that it won't run on batteries eigther.

If I can Fabricate a housing from High impact plastic it migh bring down the cost of production of these little bad boys. of corse these things won't count the cards but that is some thing you can do your self if you suspect the deck is light a card or two.

if you use two diffrent colored decks, you'll see if/when it does go wrong.

but if I can engineer this thing right it wont do that at all.

This is not gonna be a small project for me. but I'm winning to put my mind to work on this. as soon as I get a reasonable prototype working I'll let you guys know. I exspect about 3-4 weeks before I get one even running.

I figure it about time to put all that Schooling to work for me. who knows this may become the idea that make me rich. I cant believe that the Company that makes the orignal is so closed to offering it to the public. oh well there loss might be my gain.

In fact I know for sure this is gonna be the biggest project I've undertaken yet. but with the wild success of my poker room I'm sure that I'm up for it.

At our casino we try our best to avoid them.

During our dealer's class we sent a sorted deck through the automatic "shuffler" and there were fully 2-3 straight flushes including one EIGHT CARD STRAIGHT FLUSH. Not a very good showing by the automatic shuffler. In the same time it takes for the machine to shuffle the deck an experienced dealer can do a phenomenally better job with less wear in the cards (the shufflers bend the cards). Some houses use them, some don't, but if they don't I assure you it's by CHOICE.

We only use them for Pai Gow Poker since the already dredfully slow game would be slowed to a CRAWL if you had to deal it by hand.

Regarding shufflers -- Do you have to get a different one depending on the cards? Ex. Bridge or Poker size, kem or paper?
