Hello all,
This is my first post yet I have been reading the forum for about 5 months now, been playing for about 6 months.
Dont you just hate it when you realize you have been playing wrong?
And lost money doing it?
Anyways,
I am wondering for those who play home games, do you use antes?
I never have, and kinda like the idea that if you are not SB or BB you can fold and it hasnt cost you a dime. The question is.....is this optional or recomended, I am sure it can change the dynamics of the game, people calling bets because they have invested little in the pot, but still invested.
I have a game tonight and I am wondering should I bring this to the tabel...or do most home games not use the ante?
Cheers,
Rayburn

I guess I could have just looked at the ante poll thread.

i would say that most do not use an ante, just blinds.

I use blinds only. Most of the time the antes only come in later in a game and raising the blinds as fast as I usually do there is little need for antes in my opinion.

We used to use antes only, but when you've got more than 4 people, it can benefit you to use blinds. I find blinds better than antes normally. What I do have a question on is I noticed in WSOP I heard them say Antes, SB, & BB. Does everyone throw in the ante, along with one throwing in the SB, & BB? Is this to keep people active with chips?

There is always a big blind and a small blind, but the guys I play with have started adding an ante around the 100/200 mark to keep the action running.

If everyone had a stake pre-flop, would it not in a way ensure more action?

That's the theory. It makes people more likely to jump in and play because you can now take the blinds AND antes. In one case I might be able to steal $750 in blinds, now I may be able to get another $500 in antes as well.

In our HE and Omaha Ring games, we use only Big Blinds.
