Just about to start online

Hey,

I've played quite a bit of play money online, and with friends, and I'm about to deposit money.

Any suggestions to start out?

What type of games do you recommend as far as low limit players go?

I'm planning on playing partypoker. I like the look and feel of it the best.

Thanks

Well, I'm far from an expert and I still consider myself a beginner but since no one else chipped in here:

Play money in almost no way reflects real money play, although $.5/$1 is still pretty darn loose, like 5-8 people seeing every flop and 4-6 of them going all the way to the river.

Play pretty tight and conservatively to start with.

This next one is a little extreme and I only did it for a couple of evenings before I played a real money table. Watch some real money games. While watching, get a deck of cards and deal yourself 2 hole cards. How would you play the two cards in front of you from what position (Early, Mid, Late, BBlind, SBlind)?

Start to get familiar with outs and odds. You'll need to know them to be a "serious" player.

Have a real bankroll. By real, it's money that you could absolutely just throw away if you wanted to. It's not rent, food, tuition, insurance, credit card payment (or advances). It's money you're going to gamble with period.

Get some of the recommended books and read, study and read. Play and read some more.

Or then you could just pop in $50, play every pair, have a good time and see what happens. :D

Good Luck.

Heh, thanks Steve.

I've been watching some of the game and 5/1 SnG tourny's at pp lately, to get a feel for it. Seems like I'd do well in them.

I'm getting a lot better with odds (i dont have to consult a chart for MOST stuff).

What is too tight? I knoew its a vague question, but I tend to play pretty tight when I play. I think I'm doing fine, but there are days I'm around 80% fold pre-flop.

Just curious.

And thanks again

Again, I'm no expert but most tight aggressive players seem to participate in 12% - 20% of the hands they play (this is usually referred to as VP$IP, voluntarily put money in the pot and is exclusive of the BB and SB). Tight aggressive players also raise preflop in the 7%-9% range.
