I've been wanting to go to a casino and play some live poker. I don't fully understand rakes. I understand that that is how casino's make their money off of poker, but what is the percent? When is the rake taken? How often? Could someone explain it all?

It's a percentage of the pot taken by the house. The percentage varries, and it usual has a cap, so it never gets too huge for any one hand.
It is taken throughout the hand, usually as action happens.

Is this taken at every hand? Or every 5th, etc? Is it out of the final pot for that hand? Or is during play, at random?

In a live game, it's taken every single hand unless everyone folds to the BB.
As I've already stated, it's taken throughout the hand as action occurs.
