We weren't getting alot of actual design input on the other tread. So here is the place to post them. If only I had something to get us started.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Okay, I'll shoot out the 1st Fantasy Casino name that popped in my head - Aces Up (or Kings Up).
e.g. -
Aces Up Casino
Kings Up Card Room
Aces Up Poker Club
Kings Up Hotel and Casino (I always find it humorous to add "Hotel and" because of the drunks on our couches after card night)
Actually, maybe that's a good start - do we want "Casino", "Card Room", "Poker Club"...? None of the above? Just "The (Something)"? Less Casino-esque?
e.g. -
The Joker's Den
The King's Cave
The King's Dominion
The Royal Shed
The Outer Realm
Back Door Poker Tour
Or more classy-type Casino name? Personally, if that were the case, I would prefer to stay away from a "real" location, just some made up name.
e.g. -
Outland Casino
Soundside Casino
Shooter's Bay Casino
Rolling Sands Casino
Outer Realm Casino (I like this one - very generic)
I don't know. My mind is ablaze. I want chips!!!!

"South Lake Lodge and Casino"
"Sierra Nevada Resort and Casino"
Picture of a classic ski lodge or a snow capped peak in the background.
Like I've said before I love Tahoe. It's the best place in the world.

speaking of sierra nevada...
i always like the scroll-type (tree bark maybe?) logo on their label....thoughts?

Always been my favorite.

Okay the more I think about the Outer Realm Casino idea, the more I like it. I have been messing around with fonts, and I think the name would look cool in Monotype Corsiva or Staccato222 BT (these are MS Word fonts if you want to check them out). For the picture, I was thinking something simple - maybe a simple graphic with stars and a moon. Or instead, for some reason I think it would look cool to have a planet with a huge cactus jutting up out of it, or maybe a big old school Vegas-type sign sticking up off of it instead (think of the font to the original cover of the Restaurant at the End of the Universe).
Anyway, the name doesn't necessarily have to have a space-type theme to it at all, just seems to fit the name, and allows for some simple, classy designs.
Does anyone else interested in the custom order like this idea at all, or should I just shut the hell up?
Posted Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:38 am GMT by Fat Tony
i don't find the idea all that appealing, but let's see what everyone else thinks.
Posted Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:43 am GMT by slowplayray
The name or the graphics? Or both?
Posted Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:49 am GMT by Fat Tony
both. but hey, just because i don't like it doesn't mean others won't.
Posted Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:53 am GMT by warewulf619
How about "The Dungeon" with an old medievil theme? Maybe a knight slaying a dragon, or vice versa...
If that's too D&D ish, a viking or cave man theme?
I would also lean towards TR King or Blue Chip with double edge spots.

I've been lurking over this thread and the other one on this topic for a couple of days now, thinking about it. I'M IN! IMHO if we want a simple classy inlay the font and not the graphic will be what sets it off. I like the monotype corsiva that slowplayray mentioned, it has a lot of similaritites with Bellagio's font. I also like the Shooters Bay Casino that he mentioned earlier. I also like Halfmoon Bay or anthing with bay in the name just sounds cool to me.
Does anybody have an opinion about the Caesars Palace font? To me NOTHING reeks of Vegas or gambling in general more than Caesars. It wouldn't have to be a roman theme. Just about any theme would do, that font is enough to set it off. Would there be copyright issues?

They have that style in a picture on their website:

Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 7:27 am GMT by babyhawg
Will they do each edge spot in a different color? Do they still do the circular saw inlay? What does everybody think about having one of the denoms (if we end up having denoms) with that style of multi color edge spot? I dig that inlay too, but I got a feeling that it's something they used to do for casinos. It would be worth asking them about it though.

They only do round inlays for the public.
This just came to me-
THUNDERDOME

what do you think?
With a simple design I think it can still be made very classy.

I still say I think it should be something like TH-P Hold 'em Club or something.
Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 1:00 pm GMT by Fins
Looks like it should be Twister's Casino...
I think MasterShake's ideas of keeping it generic and incorporating the forum name into might better for a group buy.
Here's a thought... something using "poker fan" the logo could be like an old metal fan where the blades are twisted cards with a center circle of "TH-P" or even denoms...
Enjoying the thread... should start posting more art/pics though
Already went the custom chipco route so I probably shouldn't be throwin' in my 2¢... but hey it's only 2¢ :D

Where did that come from? Actually, I like that name!
My preference would be to leave the forum out of it, and especially the words "hold'em" - they would not make for a very generic casino chip if a specific game was called out on them.

Kind of... SWMBO thought the larger version similar to the palms was a little plain, especially the chip wrap so we went with the smaller detail...
Here's the version we went with: TFC Chips
We went with a king & 2 queens as we're a family of 3. Patrick at HPC was extremely helpful & patient... recommend them for sure!
Should be about 4 weeks... would probably be sooner but some dang 20k+ suit order will probably hold 'em up ... Not sure I got the final design in before you guys ... can't wait to see those either!
- Fins
PS - Since I'm thread stealing... you end up getting the Elite 550 chip case form another poster?
BACK TO THE TOPIC: Someone should start another thread just for designs & pics... just a thought

I like it! The $25 is my favorite (I like green). Yeah, I keep looking at the calendar for the suits! The guy with the case -- ended up not being the elite. I'm still going to order 1 or 2 of those though. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

From the game: Twister Game. The round different colored edge spots remind me of it.
Good point about having hold 'em on the chips.
Could use a cool tornado with cards or suits flying around.... or even chips.... nothing like having a bunch of chips flying around :D

Edge spots are definite. Looks like we will probably be going with TR King for multi-colored edge spots. Design doesn't exist yet...we have kicked around a couple of ideas but have not had enough input yet to come up with something concrete.

HELO: Those look to be about what we're going for, something basic like that. If we can all agree on a name then we can get the designs going. And people seem to be forgetting that we want a classic looking chip with a casino name, not thunder or twister or anything I think the general concensus was for a classic casino looking chip.

Turner's Riverboat Casino
(haha - get it?! )
Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 7:21 pm GMT by HELO
Somebody just needs to pick one eventually, because an easy consensus is rare... working in design, that is one thing i know... but i would be glad to design the chip once you guys pick a name. --- Casino Desperado has a nice ring to it... :D
Does TRking have edgespots you have to choose from, or can you do anything you want?
Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 7:40 pm GMT by ncskiier
Helo- thanks for stepping up. Finally a picture to look at. But yeah, I think we need to get back to the original idea of going with a classic, albeit, fantasy casino. Casino Desperado is a good start. I don't hate it. Also, I would really want some sort of background picture or design. And yes, we can use whatever edgespot combinations we want. I think we may even be able to go triple on a few denoms. Not sure though.
Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 7:46 pm GMT by slowplayray
Seriously - Turner's Riverboat Casino...!
I can't be the only one who appreciates the double entendre! Think of it...a nice simple outline of a paddleboat for the background...huh, huh?
Or perhaps I'm the only one who finds me clever...
However, if noone's with me...I also don't hate Casino Desperado.

I don't hate the riverboat or the desperado ideas. Being a man of compromise, how 'bout 'The Desperado Flophouse' a black and white sketch of Pancho Villa could be very cool! I don't know about simple and classy, but very, very cool.

Thunder Bay Resort & Casino?
I like the idea of a subtle classy chip, along the lines of the Bellagio, as others have stated. Also, I agree that it's going to be quite difficult to get a clear consensus on the theme....
Posted Thu Nov 11, 2004 9:17 pm GMT by ncskiier
Thunder Bay, I don't hate it. I don't know how it'd look on a chip, but I see a stormy sky w/ lightning reflecting on a body of water.
A few more and I think we can put it to a vote.
I don't like the riverboat idea though, my .02

Hi HELO,
Great job on comming back with some quick art to get people thinking.
Some thoughts to consider...
• I think it'd be better to work closer to scale
• I think the points around the inlay will be difficult to do as the inlay will be round so the chip color would have to be matched to make them look like points and using a chip wrap on an inlay just limits the space for a graphic
• Fancy fonts at small scale can be difficult to read
• I'd incorporate 2 or 3 colors (but no more) for contrast
Thanks for posting,
Fins

I have reading this forum for some time now and have learned a great deal. Thank You
I would like to see the chips take on a more old school feel of Vegas. Maybe "Ocean's Casino" playing off of the Rat Pack era. One thing which I think would be unique is to have the numbers in the same font or style as on US currency.
Hope my suggestions inspire some ideas and depending on the final design I may wish to take part in this group buy.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 8:33 am GMT by JohnnyCache
While I like the look of the gunman in the middle of the chip, should we make it poncho villa? Did Poncho play poker?
Also, if this is for a group buy, I think we should go colors with no denominations...
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 9:10 am GMT by Guest
you should give the inlays the classic geometric shapes.
like the Turf Club chips.

Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 9:22 am GMT by tabascojrc
First, someone has to take charge somehow, or it will never get done. Someone will have to execute the group buy. That means fronting the money or managing the escrow etc etc. So decide on that.
I would compile a list on a single simple web page of suggested names. Keep dreaming up names for a bout a week or 2. Much like you already are, but an easy to read central list (maybe with short desc. of what the design could look like.) I could maybe host it if you like.
Once you have the long list made, Open a poll to vote on which are the best. I think a general vote is a good way determine if the name will be well recieved.
Once the name is decided upon (or at least narrowed down to 2 or three)
I would start designing concepts.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 11:16 am GMT by HELO
I agree. It looks like the price per 500 set would be 375.00. I have my share. if we can find a person that has 3750.00 to front the buy, or at least someone responsible to strike a deal with TR king so we can all send our money separate. This should all be taken care of before we go into the designing.
- That being said. I don't really care much about the name as long as it isn't " stupid ". the design is more important. i think we are already about half way there. (?) THe classic name seems to be more agreed upon, so, ill do some more classic style ones. That wont be a problem.
I AGREE - NO DENOMINATIONS! that would make it alot easier and also more desirable to a broader group of people.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 11:35 am GMT by babyhawg
I also agree. We must have someone in charge. I dig the Thunder Bay name as well. If we go with no denoms I guess we'll need a vote on colors. Does anyone know exactly how many colors we can have if we go with TRK? I'm assuming that's who we're going with of course.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 11:36 am GMT by MasterShake
I'm out. I want denoms.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 11:43 am GMT by HELO
It was just a suggestion.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 12:06 pm GMT by coyote
Denominations (with $ sign) are very important to me as well.
Spending this much on a set of custom chips, I would think that noone should have to settle and get something they don't like. Having the denomination or not is a pretty significant difference.
2 options that I suggest:
A. split right now into those who are interested in denominations and those who are not. The same art work could be used or not...
B. Or perhaps TR would be willing to make an accomadation and put denoms on part of the order...

In hindsight I think my last post was a little confusing. I'm all for denoms it's just not a deal breaker for me. The main issue that I see with denoms is someone wanting oddballs like $2, $10, $50, etc. that could drive up the cost. If we go with the standard casino issue $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000 I would have no problem with it, I'd even prefer that set-up :D Sorry If I confused anyone
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 4:41 pm GMT by ncskiier
It will not drive up the cost to have a few extra denoms. Dennis at TRK agreed to ten different denoms and I didn't get the feeling he would limit us to that.
Posted Fri Nov 12, 2004 4:55 pm GMT by babyhawg
That's cool :D In that case I'm for denoms all the way!

I am the owner of www.cardroomsupply.com. I have just found this forum. I love many of the design ideas on here. I am looking to start carrying higher end chips. e.g. Chipco, Blue Chip. As you know it takes large orders to get the chips started. I would like to use some of your ideas on some lines of chips. I could purchase large portions of the orders with everyone on this forum being able to be part of each order. I would than want to sell this line afterwards. I don’t know if this is a good idea or a bad idea I just thought maybe it would allow some of you to get chips at a price you would have never been able to get. Let me know what you think. Obviously some people probably would not want their chips to be sold to the public. I may be wrong though. Let me know what you think.
Thank you,

Got my TRK samples today. Holy CRAP that was fast! Still waiting for that jack@ss from eBay to send me my Grand Island samples (not to mention my NJ clays), and in the meantime I order and get these in 2 days for FREE! He sent me 5 in all, all w/ edgespots. Anyway, they're sweet (he even sent me on of Hoefler's drilled out). The smaller size is very noticeable though - 2 of my buddies w/o anything to compare them to were like "are these smaller?" But for the quality, I can deal with this, no problem.

I think I am going with this design
http://www.d-roy.com/chipco_layout2.jpg
I like it because it will be an exclusive chip on my site with the cardroom theme
I have seen cardroom spelled both ways
card room and cardroom
what looks better or what looks right.

are lweber and HELO the same person? or just know each other? i'm confused as to who the desperado designs belong to.
and i would like to reiterate what i said in an earlier post - i am not in on this buy if a poker chip store or ebay seller is going to buy up a large lot to sell to the public. no offense to them, but i want this to be unique among those of us involved with the ideas and designs.

No... we are not the same person... i started talking to Weber from www.cardroomsupply.com after he expressed interest in the Desperado design. I still want to work with you guys if your going to do a different design.

only if you tell me what you think of the chipco desperado chips above. Just your oppinion from a poker players standpoint, not for the group buy....

Oh, sure man...not doubt I think it's a sweet design, especially for a full-graphic ceramic...personally, I like your design better than the Apache one, which is the closest thing I can think of to compare it to. I like the font a lot - and I think I like the "Club Desparado Card Room" version best. Though I personally would probably change the $5 to red...

Sorry,
It looked like you had given up on the Desperado design.
I will start another post.

What do you think about the standard Kings Crown chip with double edge spots? Maybe a better deal could be worked out.

I don't mind the design. I just want a chip that's somewhat exclusive.

Okay, I came in on this thread late, so I'm not going to read all 7 pages of ideas. By reading the last couple threads it looks as though I'll be in the clear anyway. So, here goes my $0.02:
I liked the Outer Realm - almost. How about "Outer Rim" - kind of like a throw back to Star Wars, but you never have to elude to Star Wars more than that. Plus, I just think Outer Rim sounds better.
Secondly, I got this idea from a T-shirt I recently bought at the clothing store called Buckle. "Outlaws Saloon & Casino". Outlaws would be written on the chip on a downward arch, followed by two crossed revolvers underneath. Then maybe a denomination (or not) under that, and then the words "saloon and casino arched upward on the bottom part of the artwork - I don't know yet, I haven't gotten that far.
I really like ideas that don't place the chips anywhere specifically in the United States geographically (i.e. nevada, california, etc...) That way, those of us who live in "outlawed" poker states can enjoy our chips with a certain authenticity.
I apologize if I've repeated anyone elses ideas. Please let me know what you think about these ideas.
