I'll be at the Trop tomorrow night playing 4/8, 6/12 or 7.50/15 if anyone happens to be in the area. I'll probably get to the room around 10pm. Say "Hi" if ya happen to spot me.

7.50/15? Is that a pain in the ass?

You'd think so, but you get past it pretty quick. They call it the "pink chip" game, because all of the checks are the $2.50 variety. Dealer announces bets and raises in the number of chips, not the monetary amount. Interesting thing is blinds are $5 and $7.50 (or 2 and 3 Smile), so you almost always have to complete from the SB when you get the chance to limp.

I've had alot of luck at the trop. Plus the poker club rate is pretty good as well. I'll be down there next weekend most likely.

I usually play at the Taj, but I have been looking for a game like you mentioned. I regularly play 5/10, and recently tried out the 10/20. I have just started winning consistently at the 5/10, the 10/20 was more of a curiousity thing. The skill level was much higher then the 5/10 and although I liked it a lot, I found I had difficulty playing as aggressive as I would at the 5/10 basically becuase I do not yet have the bankroll to support that type of play at that limit.

Anyway, 7.5/15 sounds right in the middle. How do you like it compared to the 5/10? What is the skill level like? How big is the Trop compared to the Taj in I mean how many tables? Would appreciate letting me know, I am going down over the Thanksgiving holiday.

I've never played at the Taj, so I have no idea how to compare the two. On an average weekend night, I'd say you probably have 30-40 games running. The room will likely be packed this weekend. I can tell you the 7.50/15 is the highest limit hold'em game they spread, but you'll find decent players at levels as low as 4/8. I haven't seen a game there that can't be beaten, but I often find I have to get cards in order to do it. You'll either run into someone who will call you all the way down out of stupidity or someone who knows you're full of sh!t, so you have to be very very careful about picking your spots if you want to try to buy a pot. Two examples from last night. One at 6/12 and one at 1/2 NL:

6/12: I get JJ and raise from late position. The player immediately to my right was calling with a lot of trash and had no qualms about betting the flop with it from early position. Flop comes Qxx, and he bets. I know he has a Q, but I want to try to move him off it so I raise. Everyone folds back to him and he calls. Turn is another undercard, and he bets again...so I raise again. I'm doing everything I possibly can to represent an overpair. He calls again. River is a rag, and finally he checks. I take one more stab at it and bet out, and he calls with Queen THREE! Calling to the river with top pair is one thing. Betting into the raiser who subsequently raises you...TWICE...with top pair and the 11th best kicker is another.

1/2 NL: I get 78s in middle position. Small raise to $7, but with 3 callers in front I decide to see the flop: As5d6h. Open-ended straight draw and backdoor flush draw. Raiser bets $20 (put him on an Ax), two callers this time, so I call to see the turn: 6d. He bets $25 this time, all fold to me and I call. River is a 5h...and he checks. I bet out $100, he thinks for a second and folds. He had seen me turn over a few big hands earlier and I'd watched him lay down hands late against moderate resistance, so it was easy to sell him on the idea that (at minimum) I had an A with a better kicker than his.

Those examples are rough, but I know how it feels. You mentioned a few different spread tables, can you tell me how many different tables they have for limit hold'em? This way you can save me a trip, lol.

Thanks,
Inker

The majority of them are 2/4 and 4/8 limit hold'em, and you'll rarely find more than one 6/12 and 7.50/15 game running. So, if you're down there this weekend, we'll likely bump heads. Smile
