Player A: 500 in chips
Player B: 2000
Player C: 2000
Player A goes all-in before the flop and Players B and C call the 500. So this creates a side pot for the flop for players B and C. Player B goes all-in after seeing the flop. Player C does not want to risk losing everything on this hand.
My question is that if Player C does not want to go all-in for the side pot, can he just play for the original pot. It does not seem correct that if Player C does not want to risk-all in that he will forfeit the main pot when player A would still get to play for it.
Thanks.

If player B moves all-in C has to call that bet as well or forfeit the main pot.

Once you fold, you are out of contention for any pot. The reason Player A still gets to play for it is because all his chips are already in there, there is nothing more he can do.
