Short answer is I don't know either.

They seem to be another variation on the 11.5g chips that are everywhere.

I too have seen those at costco, come in a green box. My friend picked up a set and we've played with them. They sound better than the others that came in the orange box that they had before however if you notice the the different suits on the chips don't look very good. Also the blue chips get confused with the white ones because they're so close in color. White is the best out of the lot as they stack pretty well and aren't too slippery. All the other ones are pretty slippery but for 50 bucks from costco it's not too bad.

I bought a set of those from Costco today to play around with. They're not bad for what amounts to about a 10-12 cent chip. While they are sold as 11.5 gram chips they feel, look, and sound like the 13.5 gram 'clay' chips that are sold through places like pokernstuff.com and pokerchipmart.com (AKKO Intl.). I don't have a digital scale, but I'd guess they weigh more than 11.5 grams. The metallic sound of the slug seems to be deadened with additional plastic. The downside is that these chips, along with much of the current crop coming out of China, is that they are bigger and thicker than a casino chip, measuring around 40-40.5mm in diameter and about 3.5mm thick, rather than the 39mm and ~3mm thickness of a casino chip. If you're going to use a standard casino type chip rack with them, it will accomodate the larger diameter, but you'll only be able to put 19 chips into a stack. Also the center doesn't have enough of a recess to put a label on it.

If that doesn't answer your question, you can post on the forum at thechipboard.com and get the identity of almost any chip in the known universe.

Thanks for the information!

I guess this chip is only available through Costco at the moment? No one seen this chip else where apart from Costco?

Lastly, I think that there is no metal slug in this chip. Can someone confirm this?

There's a metal slug in the chip, but the metallic sound isn't as pronounced as it is in the earlier 11.5 gram chips from China. While the presence of a metal slug may seem to be some evil indicator of poor quality from the posts that I've seen in many poker forums, it should be noted that some of the present day Bud Jones chips that are used in both casinos and cardrooms are also injection molded chips with a metallic slug (not the center coin, a metal slug similar to the Chinese chips). The Bay 101 Club here in San Jose uses Bud Jones chips and it is quite common to see a chip where the label/insert has been taken off of one side of the chip, and the metal exposed. I was also able to confirm the presence of the metal slug from the Bud Jose section of the GPI brochure on gaming chips available from http://www.gpigaming.com/pdf/US_Chips.pdf

I purchased a set of the Cosco chips, it's suited with two stripes. Exactly like my first set that I purchased from a shop here in Hawaii.

I think that may be the 'other' set that is also found at Costco. Some of our mainland stores had both for a little while. Now all they have are the ones in the green box that have the chip that is pictured in this thread.
