Is the minimum bet always the big blind? And do bets always have to be a multiple of this or can they simply be greater than this?

Pre-flop and on the flop the minimum bet is the big blind. On the turn and river it's double the big blind. Any raise must be at least the size of the big blind or, if the last raise was bigger than the big blind, it must be at least the size of the last raise.

Nope you're right Dave. I blame the post today on the turkey and wine and port. So I'll just leave it at that. Dave is right.

Wow, am I wrong here?
Limit-preflop and post flop, big blind in min and max. Turn and river it is 2x BB.
NL-all rounds 1st bet and min raise is big blind. In a tourney, if big blind is all in for less than BB amt, you must call or raise the amt of the big blind-regardless if that amt is not on the table. For example, blinds 5000/10,000, big is all in for 7000, MUST raise to at least 20,000 or call 10,000.
I have never seen in NL where raises must be in multiple of the blinds.

you're not wrong dave
to clarify your last point tho, in NL a raise must be at least the bb, but can be any amount. to use Dave's example, blinds 5,000/10,000 a raise must be 10,000 + 10,000 but can be 10,000 + 10,001 or whatever. (unless the raiser is all in with less than the req. 20,000.
