get samples... I did and I'm not that big a fan of the desert sands. keep in mind I much perfer the clays over the ceramic, but the desert sands ones they sent me seemed to have slightly blurry graphics.

I'm gonna bump this post because I'm in the same predicament.

About to buy a set of either NJs or Desert Sands. I like both just about equally. The classic style of the NJs is nice, however, the Desert Sands is nice as well.

I have samples of each (4 chips each) and still can't decide.

Help?

Are you talking about the NJ clays or Ceramics? I just got a set of the NJ clays and the more i use them the more i cant go back to my old chip set. They really are more fun to play with.

I decided to not go with the desert sands cause of the questionable durability... and cause I thought it's one of the only chips I've seen that looks better online than in person. Just my opinion. Hard to go wrong with the NJ clays though. 8)

Hey phenom... where in the Detroit area?

someplace between the Big House and Comerica Park.

Airplanes tend to fly a couple hundred feet over from time to time. Smile

im talking about the ceramic. The dead mans chips. Im not a big fan of the graphic but i like the styling of the chips. They are the right price and have to be better than my plastic dice chips.

The dead man chips are not to be compared to Chipcos, but they are 10,000 times better than plastic chips.

Neither... I bought Chipcos. :D

I have a 500 set of the Skull ceramics. The chip itself is awesome. They're pretty durable as far as I can tell. I've used them in 30 or so games and they don't show any wear. You can stack them pretty high. They have a rough texture that makes the graphics a little blurry (nothing terrible, but you'll notice it if you hold it 2 inches from your face) but it also helps them stack extremely well. Everyone I play with seems to like the graphics. I certainly do. That was probably the main reason I got them. I dunno, I'm just the kind of guy that likes things that stand out, and I don't know of any other chips with graphics that stand out like these. They're hit or miss, though... I can see why some people wouldn't like the graphics. My boss sure as hell doesn't.

I liked the Desert Sands, but they look a bit generic and the marbelized sides really don't work with them. I think all ChipCo chips are really generic, so I didn't even consider them. Just my $.02

So far I agree. I think the edge spots on the desert sands are nice but dont fit with the chip. The Dead mans chips are nice all together chips. I have my samples and im ordering my set right after christmas.

Funny you say that about the Desert Sands edge spots. That pretty much made the decision for me. I really couldn't stand to look at the edges of those chips, so in the Desert Sands vs. Nevada Jacks clay battle, they lost.

Of all the samples I got (about 40 chips total), those two were the best, IMO. I'll probably look for some more samples before I buy, though.

My 16-month old son will be happy. He gets all the crappy ones I really don't like. Smile

Just want to interject one word. Nevada Jack chips are about as good as you can get for any kind of game, in fact I think some of their clays are used commercially. My point is that there is no way you, your kids, or your grandkids kids are going to wear a set of them out. Durability is NOT an issue.

And I'm a Paulson man, myself. But I'll give Jack his due.

Well I own a poker shop and I see chipco chips all day... and everyday I can't wait to get home to play with my dead man chips. I hold the deadman chip FEEL and Design very very very much higher than that of the chipco's. I havnt met a person who i've presented both chips to, disagree with me.

I am CERTAINLY a Chipco owner. Smile But I have also always been a big fan of the NJ skull chips. I love the chips, especially the marbalized edges when stacked. If NJ's had answered an email I sent before I embarked on my trek for customs, I'd now own a set of skulls.

Yeah, they seem a bit flaky. I tried emailing, had to call to get samples. I think their composites are one of the best chips out there for the money.

I just got my samples in the mail. I was supposed to get 5 dead mans and 5 desert sands but instead got 1 of each and 15 different dice/suited plastic chips. I would have liked to see some different colours and how they stack and sound. But im not going to send in a complaint and wait another 2 weeks over a mixed up sample pack. And the 2 chips was enough for me to make up my mind. I did decide for sure and am getting the NJ Dead Man chips.
