I am looking around for a set of poker chips to buy with Christmas money (500-700 chips). I know that there are solid clay chips at 9 grams, and the clay chips with a weighted metal insert at 11.5 grams. I am guessing that it is a matter of personal preference, as I have heard that different casinos use both types of chips. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on these chips and whcih ones you tink would be best.
I will most likely just use them for my home game, so it isnt for anything special.
Thanks

I would go with the 9 gram. It is lighter, but IMO the 11.5 with the metal center sound cheap and just don't seem to be balanced all that well. The 9 gram sound more authentic. I think metal in a poker chip (unless it's coin inlay) is a bad idea.

To me the lighter chips feel cheap. It's probably not advice you can really ask for without actually feeling the difference for yourself. Try getting samples.

Thats what I was leaning towards. Unless I got an overwhelming response in favor of the 11.5 gram I was going to get the 9 gram ones.
Do you have any suggestions for places that I could buy it from (online preferably)?

Well, personally, I really want a chip that sounds like a casino chip, so a factor like that may be more important than the weight. Anyways, check www.homepokertourney.com and www.pokerchipreviews.com, those were big helps for me.
