I have been looking around at chips for the past couple of days, and ran into these. I have been looking for some good quality chips at a decent cost.
This is what the site has to say about them:
"Poker Chip Set - 1000 Super Diamond Poker Chips with Aluminum Case
These 1000 Casino Clay Composite Poker Chips with ALUMINUM carrying case are great for any party.
These are the real thing, a 9-Gram clay composite chip. These chips feel good when you hold them. When they splash the pot, you will know by the sound you have a quality chip. Great for blackjack, roulette, or any gaming arena.
Your Chips will be protected in this aluminum case. It will provide the most protection for your investment. It is made of heavy duty, yet lightweight aluminum available in brilliant silver. The interior is black felt with space for 1000 chips. The handles are securely riveted for long lasting use.
This is the chip case that will last a lifetime.
The color and quantity of chips shown are the most popular and have been pre-selected for you, however, you can make changes per your requirements."
Or would these be a better value. A bit more expensive, and Im not sure what the polyresin insert is. If anyone could clear that up I would appreciate it. So here is the picture of the second set.
This is the description of these:
"Poker Chip Set - 500 Soprano Six Stripe 8.5g Poker Chips with Vinyl Case
These 500 Striped Casino Chips with carrying case are beautiful and will be the envy of your next card game.
These chips are manufactured with a special polyresin which gives the rich sound and feel of clay chips. The chips are 8.5 gram casino size and have the flare that makes them as attractive casino chips.
These are the same style of poker chips used in the exclusive poker games seen on the Sopranos T.V. show!
The new carrying case exterior is made of a padded black vinyl material with solid brass latches and hinges. The fully felt lined interior of the case is outfitted with a compartment for 300 chips.
Also included in this set are two decks of used casino cards and 5 used craps dice.
The color and quantity shown are the most popular and have been pre-selected for you, however, you can make changes per your requirements."
Im really sorry for posting big pictures if it bother anybody. I really have no idea when it comes to buying these poker chips so I thank you for any input that you can give me. Remember, I want to keep the cost low so these wont be $.50 a chip quality.
Thanks in advance
EDIT*** - pics didnt work for some reason so I only have the description.

The super diamond chip is the absolute cheapest chip on the market. That doesn't mean necessarily that they are the worst chips tho. I have always reccommended to either go big (custom clays) or go cheap and save your money for some great ones later.
I personally own 400 of the super diamonds to use as low denom tournament chips. They work great. I also have a small set of pokerchips.com custom clays on the way to use for ring games and the upper denoms in a tournament. That way my final table will be only my quality $1 per chips.
I got my set from 5stardeal.com at .08 each. They are having a 25% off right now too so its even better. I would grab 2 of these if you really need 1000 (you don't tho unless you are hosting massive tourneys)- http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=10-1010-500S
With the 25% off it would be $83.98.

Me again.
Another idea is to ditch the cases and get this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63760&item=6137619079&rd=1
I use racks for mine, I like it.

Ok, thanks. I dont really need 1000, that was just the set they were offering.
I think I will go with the Super Diamond chips for now, and maybe save up and buy some higher quality chips over the summer.
I was thinking of having 12-15 people for a tournament. I want every1 to start with 1000 in chips (white=1,red=5,blue=25,black=100 or something like that). Do you think that just a set of 500 will be enough for that?
And also, do the super diamond chips have a nice feel to them or do they feel really cheap?

If you're going to go cheap, go with the Faux Dice Chips (10g). They have a much better feel than EVERY cheap chip out there and they also cost $.06 after the 25% discount from 5star.
500 chips is cutting it short for 12 players, espically if you want to use $1 chips for a $1000 buy-in. Skip the whites, get at least 20 reds for everyone ($100) and at least 8 greens for everyone ($200) then plan the rest accordingly. Around a hundred blacks (T100) and maybe 50 (T500) chips.
If you're going to buy cheap chips, at least get more than you need. Thats exactly what I did. Once I get tired of the 10g dice chips, or win more than my share with them, Ill probably get some Nevada Jacks Desert Sands, or the new Paulson that are due out next year.

I bought a set of 1000 and this is how I did it
400 Red Chips - $5
300 Green Chips - $25
200 Black Chips - $100
100 Orange Chips - $500
Depending on how many people we get, I break down the chips like this.
=================================
2-19 Players - $1,000 in Chips (38 Chips Total)
20 Red = $100
12 Green = $300
6 Black = $600
=================================
20-25 Players - $1,000 in Chips (31 Chips Total)
15 Red = $75
9 Green = $225
7 black = $700
=================================
26-40 Players
10 Red = $50 - $1,000 in Chips (20 Chips Total)
6 Green = $150
3 black = $300
1 Orange =$500
=================================
using this system, I don't use all the Green and Black chips, so it makes it easier to color in the lower chips during the game.
Even thought it is possible to do 26 or more players with a set of 1000 chips, people are always have to make change with each other at the tables. I really want to get another set of 1000 so I don't have to use the orange chips at the start with 26+ players. It is kind of cool to bring in a new color later on in the game when people get lots of chips.

I'm also thinking about picking up some cheap chips for tourney play. Any of you guys who have used the super diamond or the faux dice, do either of them have the metal slug in them? Also how slippery are either of the chips? I don't know which I hate more the metal sound or chips being so slippery that you can barely shuffle them.

I have the faux dice chips. Not slippery at all, and the sound is very nice. One thing Ive noticed, is that they have very sharp edges when brand new, but they actyally get broken in after a few games and have a more of a rounded edge.
I have a couple of plain Paulson $.50 chips from local casinos, and these 10g faux dice chips feel very similar, and the sound appears to be close as well. Because I only have 2 real paulson chips I cant really tell what a stack would sound like, but 2 chips compared to 2 chips was very close.
Oh...and those chips will stack to the ceiling, or at least until one of my twins plays Godzilla 8)

Thanks, I think you just made my decision for me. Gonna have to pickup a set of those from 5star while they have the 25% deal.

Yeah...the 10 grammer dice chips are an amazing value for the $$$$. Can't go wrong if your budget is limited.
Cheers,
John
