Just one of MANY reasons not to play A4, or A9, A8, A7, A6, A5, A3, A2.

WHat happened here is this.

You flopped 2 pair,

Then the Kings paired on the board, so now you have AA KK with a 4 kicker (because the Kings are higher than your original 4s)

So you had this hand : AAKK4

Your opponent had : AAKK10

he wins with a 10 kicker.

I might be being a little picky, but Dias he had a nine kicker for

AAKK9

Turn was a 9.

I would not play A 4 most of the time but i did because it was suited and I got caught up in it when I saw two pair.

Should you never play A Xs if its low?

AXs is fine if you make your flush, or pair your kicker without getting counterfeited. In this instance, the best you could hope for was a split pot where the other player's kicker was also lower than the 9.

On second thought, looking at the actual history, I sure as hell wouldn't have played it from UTG in a NL game.

(this is rapidly turning into one of those responses I wish I never started...)

I appreciate everybodys reply!

I read that if its cheap to play you may want to consider playing it.

Like I said I am new to the game ...a little over a month now... so I do appreciate everyones time.

With 8 players left to act behind you, you don't know that it's going to stay cheap. If gets raised and reraised behind you, it's no longer cheap and you'll likely have to give up the bet you've invested.

Plus, a small Axs is a drawing hand that requires a few callers to make it profitable. If I can limp in a limit game in late position with 3 or 4 people already calling in front, I'll do it every time. In a NL game, draws are death. Good players will make it too expensive for you to see the turn when they hit the flop.
