The Egyptian chip set - I have the new chip designs!

Posted Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:05 pm GMT by TenPercenter
The proofs are in! I've added three denominations to the set. A round 25ยข, an octagon $1,000, and a $5,000 plaque.

I want to get your opinions on the new designs. Below you'll see the current proofs. Let me know what you think, and be honest! I really want your true opinion, and you WILL NOT hurt my feelings. Feel free to tell me if you like them, but also give me your knit-picky details on what bugs you. Very Happy

The new proofs:

BTW I don't know what's up with the edgespots I'm calling them tomorrow to ask. I can't tell what they were trying to show me with the octagon and the plaque...

Very nice. I think they look better than the Luxor chips I assume they were inspired by. Do you do your own design work or is that who "Lightning Solutions" is?

Since you ask, I guess the only thing I'd question is the oversize octagon (!! didn't even know you could get chips in octagon LOL) $1000 chips. In tourneys the $1K chips are going to see a lot of use, just seems like they'd be awkward. Although it's hard to tell the true proportions, they're about 1.5x actual size on my monitor.

Those chips look great! wish I had bought some of them originally...

Those do look nice, but why an octagon chip? Like was mentioned before, they'll probably get alot of use. Maybe ditch the plaque(I know you really want one though) and make the 5k octagon?

For what it's worth I can't see the pictures.

Thanks for the comments. For everyone (same thing posted on 2+2): I'm not ignoring your comments, I'm taking everything in as it comes. Smile

Before I discuss too much, I want to get more raw opinions from everyone else before I post my own opinions.

PM or email or IM me your name and email if you want to be put on my email list for order updates. There are 38 people on it now so a group order is imminent. (there are still no hard prices or dates, but there will be within 2-3 weeks)

are you ordering more of your original design, or just the 3 new chips/cheques?

Looks like the Octagon will have 2 edge spots and the plaque will have one.

I wonder if Chipco would put labels like the value of the chip on their edges like they do wth some casinos.

All in all... looking good!

I absolutely love the graphics! Are you going with the octagon and plaque because of the size of the graphics or because you just want those shapes?

I think your chips are some of the very best, if not the best, designs I have ever seen. I don't, however, care for the octagon or plaque shapes. Perhaps I am too much of a tradionalist. If the size serves the purpose of making the graphics better then maybe that is a good thing.

I have watched the WPT in Paris and they use the plaque but it wasn't something I really wanted to emulate. This is only my opinion and should not be taken too seriously.

I found out that I will get an edgspot on two sides of each. They won't allow anything else on the edge.

I'll be ordering more of all eight denominations. I'll open up the full set for re-orders.

Because I want the set to be truly unique, and it's gonna be really cool for the final table at my big toruneys to get colored up with these chips. Smile

Yes, I walso wanted more "canvas" for the big chips. If you look at the thread at 2+2 you'll see how it has evolved this week already.

Like I said, all opinions are welcome. That's why I posted it. I'm still going to go with my heart, but I get to see a lot of new angles on everything. Thanks a lot.

What is the time frame for new/re-orders? Is the pricing the same as before (the plaques must be more right?)

There are no firm numbers or dates yet. But as preliminary guess, I'd say prices will be "about" what they were in my last order. Yes, the plaques will cost more of course, but we won't need as many of those.

If you want me to add you to the update email list, PM me your name and email.

I sent you a pm. Well I think I did. I got a weird error message and tried to repost but I got a flood control message so I assume it went through.

Ten - I loved the set the first time, and I like these new designs a lot. I like the non-traditional shape of the octagon (though it might make shuffling chips a bit hard).

You wanted nit picking, so, in my opinion....

- what in the world do you need a $0.25 chip for? I mean really? i've never understood that.

- the octagon is too big - it should have the same diameter from one corner to another as the circular chips do.

- the border on the octagon and plaque chips is too wide. make it the same as on the regular chips.

- on the $1000 octagonal chip, the body and background should be slightly different in color. not so much that the arms can't fade into the background like they do now, but enough so there is a difference. or maybe make them the same color at the bottom and as you go up the chip the background gets slightly darker or lighter.

- man, that border on the plaque is just huge. and there are multiple borders on it. it just seems like too much, too busy.

- the edge spots on the $1000 octagon adn $5000 plaque should be consistant with the other chips, so: octagon has an orange edge with one wide golden edge spot; the plaque has a purple edge with two or three larger golde edgespots.

- the Tut mask on the plaque looks too photographic compared to the images on your other chips.

There. That sucks, because I love your chip design... btu you said be nit-picky.

Smile
