Did anyone see it?? I thought it was pretty good. Gus Hanson is the luckiest son of a bitch I've ever seen.

Or stupid....or both....
Let me see.....he has 650K....so he calls a 470k Re-Raise pre-flop with a 10/8 suited.....

There are a few things we don't know that may contribute to why Gus called that hand.
Did they pay an entry fee to this tournament?
What were the payouts? When someone got busted out, they didn't say how much money they got.
Looks to me like it was some kind of invitation freeroll that only paid first(if at all). First place did get a buy in to the WPT main event, which Gus already won on a previous event so it was worthless to him. So if thats the case, why not call with T8 suited? I've seen worse.
Also, he may have been trying a chip dump to Antonio and had it backfire.

I doubt that a chip dump was occuring.....most tourney's would ban you for life if you did that and they can prove it.

I'm not saying it was an agreed upon attempt made prior to the tourney, but it's quite possible Gus thought to himself "Hey, I like this kid, let me give him all my chips so I can get out of this crappy WPT invitational and get over to the cash game."
Like I said, he had nothing to lose and nothing to gain in that tourney.

Gus is also obviously very good at reading hands and players so that probably played into it. It was a winner take all event and most of them seemed to catch on to that except for Paul and the fish guy (who for some reason waited for cards that never came). Gus realized that he would have to make a lot of moves and build up a big stack fast if he wanted to win. That's what the tournament was about. He probably made a deal with himself that if he thought he was 50/50 to win he would semi-bluff or call if he had the guy covered. That seems to be what he was doing. He was smart and lucky. Like I said, it was 4 players gambling for first place, and 2 guys handing over chips.
I felt sorry for the fish guy. He was tight passive - pretty much the opposite of what you wanted to be. He had decent cards too. He could have really used his weak image to make some plays.

BTW.......
Gus already had earned his WPT Championship seat....so he would have been given $25,000 in cash......

i think gus's line of thinking might of been that he has two live cards, and semi connecting possibilities, and when its winner take all, why not?
