If it's good enough to call..... |

I see a lot of hands in online NLHE where people put in a substantial bet pre-flop way out of position and get 2, 3 even 4 people call it flat. It always amazes me that people will do this. If they consider their hand is strong enough to call a bet like that, it MUST be good enough to raise but this fails to enter the minds of a lot of players.
In truth, most of these fools are calling speculatively and then will fold on the flop when they miss after the initial raiser who has AA/KK/QQ/AKs bets out or will be taken to the cleaners after catching some piece of the flop and not using their brains enough to lay it down.
I don't even know the point of this thread, I doubt anyone here would flat call a raise like that but it doesn't just happen at my tables right? Too many people get themselves in such unnecessary trouble every time I play.

I get what you are saying Geno, and no its not just you. It can be a great advantage when I am playing at a table like this. I can raise in early position with AK, get 3 or 4 callers, and then when I bunch of rags hit I can take down the pot a majority of the time with a decent sized bet. It really becomes a profitable move against some of these players.
What I am thinking is that a lot of the people who will call those early raises are not thinking that the raiser probably has a very good hand to be raising in EP. A lot of times, I will see people call a 6xBB raise with nothing more than a decent limping hand. The thought doesnt cross their mind that A10o is most likely a huge underdog. And then, like you said, when they do catch the pair of aces on the flop, they lose a lot of money to someone with AK or AQ.
This is one of the main reasons I just about never slowplay a hand in an online cash game. I am always getting at least one or two callers regardless of the situation.
Maybe these players are doing something else and only have time to look at their own cards and dont pay attention to the play around them or maybe the thought never crosses their mind that they are losing a lot of money.

Amen brother! People online play very loose pre-flop then tight afterwards. Then they fold to an agressive bet. Oy!

Here's a good example of a home game I was in a few weeks ago. I'm in mid/late position and get AA. w00t! UTG raises the $100bb to $300. folds around to my right where he gets a call. I have two people to act after me plus the two blinds. If I called I knew there would probably have been five people on the flop (lots of loose onlinian players). So I bumped it to $1000 hoping to win the $750 right there or get maybe one caller while I had a major advantage. If I was online, I probably would have gotten the callers anyway and been destroyed. That's why I don't play online that much. :D

These are the real new stage of players who havent yet come to understand preflop starting hand strength. They play based on how pretty looking the hand looks to them and therefore how strong they think it is. calling big bets preflop with qj often occurs. These are the best palyers to be playing against because you will often be able to take them out with kicker where they have no other draw vs you besides hitting 2pair when you both have top pair. Just paly strong starting hands and you will beat them easily.
