don't have enough for SB/BB

Posted Mon Dec 20, 2004 8:58 pm GMT by eddytsi
ex. SB is 100, BB is 200. next player has 30 left, and obviously doesn't have enough to call the BB of 200.

what would be the rules on this? thanks.

The third player would be all-in for his 30, if he chooses to play, and there would be a main pot of 90. Assuming the SB calls the BB, there would be a side pot of 340 that only the SB and BB could win. All additional wagering on the hand would be placed in the side pot.

now if that player has 30 left and he's BB, what does SB call to? thanks again.

If it's only the SB and BB remaining, then the SB only has to call the amount the BB has remaining. Using your example, the SB would have posted 100 and the BB his remaining 30. If everyone folds around, the SB would get a 70 chip refund, and the pot would be 60 chips.

However, if the BB is shortstacked and can't post the full amount, any players who wish to call still need to call the full amount. So the SB posts 100, the BB 30, and a third player would still have to call 200 to stay in the pot. If the SB calls the additional 100, then we have the same situation as before: 90 chip main pot with a 340 chip side pot that only the SB and third player can win.
