Playing Pocket Ace on Loose table

Posted Tue Dec 21, 2004 9:39 pm GMT by sog35
this is for a home game with about 8 players. We start with $2000 with $2 blinds. The guys I play with play very loose. Almost any preflop raise less than 10x the BB is called immediatly by almost the whole table.

What should i do if i get AA pocket? I know i suppose to raise big preflop to scare away junk hands, but this makes little difference unless i put in at least 1/2 my chip stack, about $1000. So should i simply put a decent raise and then hope my Ace sets?

Another thing is although they play really loose preflop, if they miss the flop they fold very easily. I'm thinking i should raise preflop about 5xBB then bet really big if i hit a set.

With Aces, you don't need a set to bet big on the flop.

You need to raise big with them preflop. At a 9 person table, with everybody seeing the flop, Aces only win a little more than 30% of the time.

Against a single opponent, Aces win a little over 80% of the time.

*My numbers may be off, but they're close.

2 options, raise as much as you think 1-2 people will call, maybe 500? I dunno, you know better than I.

OR, limp in, hope someone raises and gets several callers, then make a monster raise of 1000 to all in.

If there that loose i would just go all in. Maybe you will get one calle or so.

the problem here is with your blind setup compared to the buy in amount. blinds shoudl be in the area of 10$/20$ with 2k$ buyin. If your friends do not want to change the buy in then you are simply playing a game of chasing flops. AA i would consider to be a much worse hand than J10s or even 85s in a game like this. In this type of game you want to bet the pot often with draws and any hands after raising preflop and only continue if your hands improves or they seem very weak, this type of style you would rack in big pots with at a table like that, you want a bluffer reputation here.
