Hey, I'm fairly new to these boards but not so new to poker. I've been playign home games my whole life but they have always been with friends and winning was always secondary to having a good time with the boys.
We have a casino in town and their poker room is abot a year old. I've been iching to get in and play some limit games down there but have always convinced myself that it will be a waste of my money.
I started playing some online low limit stuff to start and found that I could dominate a table one day but then loose all my winnings the next. Which is reasonable, poker is a game of ups and downs and you have to live with both. Not everyone can win.
I play a tight game for the most part, I play the high percentage hands AA, KK, AK, AQ, AJ, QQ and I'll limp in to see a flop if I'm BB or SB with Ax, Kx. If I have a low pp like 22-JJ I'll see the flop, if over cards come up i'm usually out at the first sign of big bets coming. Which is fine I may be folding possible winners to a bluff but if my money isn't on the table and riding on 22 i can't lose it, better hands will come along. Basically I 'normally' keep my money off the table unless I have a good shot at the pot.
I don't like chasing flush and straight draws but I have been known todo it certain instances when I was holding a pair and am 1 card off after the flop. Which is fine as long as its not a common thing where I'm going in with 24os and chase a straight to the river. Thats wasted money. However I will see a flop with Ax and Kx suited.
So that being said I have afew questions:
1. Is there anything wrong with my play style?
2. Before I hit the poker room at a casino what should I know about pot percentages and things of that nature?
3. If you could recommend one book on poker that I shoudl read what would it be?

A lot depends on the stakes you are playing. At low 3/6 and under at a casino IMO, you should see many callers preflop. So you should be chasing str8s and flushes-as long as you have pot odds (which you should in most cases). Also play more suited connectors on hands where you think there will be 4-6 limpers.
No you cant win everytime, but you easily can 60-75% of the time.
