Are PC Games such as "Tournament Poker - No Limit Texas Hold'Em" good tools for learning? I thought maybe playing the play money games online would be a fun way to learn the game and the mechanics of online games but I have found it frustrating because I know that the players are not playing how the actual real money game would be played. Hell, I even found myself saying "what the hell, it ain't real money" and held onto some silly hands.
I'm very serious about this and will be buying some of the recommended readings I have seen on these boards but do you think these PC games are something you can realy learn from also? Some of the readups look pretty good as you can play different skill levels, tournaments, etc...
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Cant speak from experience but i've heard that the world series game? can't remember the name? the computer analyses your play and adapts it's style against you accordingly.
Can't be a bad thing.
Altho there's nothing like the real thing i spose.

i played play money and some computer simulations when is started, and i've found they help a lot, but only if YOU treat them like real money. after i got the basics from those games, i started playing VERY low limit games (2/5 c and 5/10 cent). one step at a time.. computer games, to play money, to low limit. after you learn how to play and can do alright in the fake games, i'd recomend the low limit real money games. you might lose a few bucks every night for a while. but 1-2$ a night is not too bad and you learn way more from a low limit real money game than any play money game.
