can someone explain the concept of the RAKE?
is it a percentage of every pot that goes to the house?

Yes-it is how the house makes a buck.
Common rakes are 3-10%, often capped at $2-5 per hand.
It doesnt sound like a lot, but it makes a huge difference over time-you basically are playing against 11 people if you are at a 10 person table w/ a 10% rake. An the 11th person wins every time.
One other note-say you are playing at a $50 buy in NL table and the community cards are K Q J 10....3 players go all in w/ the A, all have the nutz, they all lose money by paying $5 each to the house.
