Betting rules

Hi,

I have recently started playing Texas Hold'em ($5/$10 Limit).

In the three weeks I have been playing I have learnt alot about the game. My only problem comes with the betting!

For example - I am sat to the left of the BB so I am the first person to act pre-flop. When playing online I do not get the option to 'Check'. Once I have called a player two places further round the table then check's!

If I have called why is somebody else allowed to check?

Thanks for any advice on this subject.

Earl Russ

well only the BB can check, if it goes around the table without any raise.

Id guess that the player 2 seats left of you that was able to check had just joined the table, in which he would have posted a buyin equal to the BB so his money was already on the table.

Thanks for your answer.

I'll have to keep a closer watch on the table the next time I'm playing and see it that is what happens.

Thanks again

It's about betting.

I have played in home games and at times we all ante, and other times we start a SB and BB.

The question is, what are the best practices for the start of betting?

As the Dealer chips rotates around the table, the first bet starts with UTG.
But say it goes around and assuming 6 players, that the fifth position (second to the left of UTG) raises. And there are checks and folds, but players in UTG and forth position stays.

Then the Flop.

Since player in 5th position raised the last round. Is it his option to start betting? Or do you again start with the UTG?

Each post flop betting round starts with the first player still holding cards to the left of the button, regaurdless of prior rounds.

earl,

if this is the first betting round and you're left of the BB, by default, the bet is to you and that is why you can't check (the BB and LB were forced bets). you must fold, raise or call. This is the case for online or home games.
