Straight On the TABLE!

Posted Sat Jan 01, 2005 1:14 am GMT by Killa_Kyle
Ok.. who wins?

There is a low straight on the table...

A,2,3,4,5

Player 1: J,8
Player 2: 9,9

Who wins? I believe that the High card would "Win" the straight and then win the pot. (Player 1 with J high.) Is this correct? Thanks

The pot is split. You only use the best 5 cards to make the hand.

I doubt it... I have seen on T.V. Poker that they turn towards the highest card to win the straight on the table. I would like some other opinions...

We have a guide on this site that explains this and other situations.

The only time a card from the hand would be used is if it made a higher straight. In your example, if Player 1 was holding J,6 then they would win the hand, but not because of the J.

I checked the guide there is no such comment about a low straight on the table...

what he said. You ONLY play the best five cards. Doesn't matter if you're holding 2 7 and he's holding AA, if the best 5 cards are on the board, or you both have the exact same hand (ex. 2 3 4 5 on board, you both have 6), doesn't matter what other cards people have. The best 5 cards play, no matter what.

Then check one of the other 20 posts in this forum about the subject. Sean is right. BEST 5 CARD HAND.

Quote:
The primary rule to remember when deciding who wins the showdown is always that the winning hand is decided on the best 5 cards out of the 7 available to each player.

That's the best I can do for you. You'll have to wait for corroboration if you don't want to take my word for it.

Well, you certainly haven't seen it on a decent TV show then cos that is utter crap. You might want to be a little more courteous toward those who are telling you the rules or better still, actually READ the guide I wrote. It clearly states that you only ever count the best FIVE card hand, the other 2 cards do not count for anything.
