When can you go all-in? I was playing the other day and someone wanted to go all-in before any cards were dealt, is that possible??
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Yep, what camp said
Its referred to as a blind bet or in the dark.
You can also check or bet in the dark after cards have been flopped, turned or rivered IF you are first to act in the hand

YOu must be first to act in the hand. This move is only usually used when you are super low on chips in a trney.

Well, you cannot make a bet out of turn, and if the cards have not yet been dealt, it is no one's turn yet. Once the cards have been dealt and it is your turn, you can go all-in without looking at your cards - as others have noted, this is 'betting blind'

i think you actually can go all in before cards are deal IF you are first to act. and yes there are bets already.. blinds are bets. so 1st left of the blinds can go all in before cards are dealt.

I've seen people go All-in before the cards are dealt and when they are not first to act. I don't think it makes a difference. As far as I know, there is nothing to stop a person from saying, I'm going all-in at anytime. All's he would be doing is hurting himself.

He can say he is all in at any time in the game, but he cannot officially put the chips into the pot until it is his turn to act.

Well, under most B+M Poker Room rules, *declaring* you are going to make a betting action is the same as *making* the betting action, and you cannot do this out of turn. This would apply to saying 'I'm all in' when it is not your turn to act. If UTG does it before the deal, I guess that's within the spirit if perhaps not the letter of the rule, but anyone else would definitely be considred in breach. I'm not sure how poker room handle violations though.
In home poker, it would have to be house rules I guess, but I favor stricter rules (as long as they are known up front)... leads to fewer arguments down the road.
