If your opponent doesn't know the tactic, don't bother trying a bluff with it.

a buddy of mine and i run into this all the time, especially in home games here in town.
with poker all the rage now adays... ppl playing simply don't know any better. if you try to push them out of a hand, they'll just call because they think that it's worth doing so with their AX and only one card to come. after all... they could hit that A right?!
obviously the AX is just an example... but you get the point. you can't bluff and uneducated player... you simply have to beat them with the cards. you may be able to force them out on occasion... but more often than not they'll stick with you to the river... and frequently will catch something to knock you out.
jmho though.

agreed...i think those ppl who don't see bluffs are playing 'just for the heck of it', without considering the odds and playing mostly for fun.......exploit their extremely loose play when u have the cards....

So true.
I played with a new group of guys last Friday.I know about 4 of them. 16 people mini tourneys. 3 tables of 6, top 2 from each go to final table. I found only a few really knew anything about strategy and odds. The rest just liked being in as many hands as possible. I made it to the final table and got ice cold cards for the most part. When I did have a good hand my raises got no respect and on two occasions a gutshot straight from this one guy took much of my chips. He also knocked out my buddy with runners after he pushed in. I ended up 1 of 3 remaining and was very short stacked with the blinds eating me alive. I'm on BB and get both limping. I flip over one of my cards for both to see (which is a Ace) and push in. The same suckout artist calls (granted he is big stack). My other card is a 10 and he flips 56 off. I feel pretty good until the flop is 688. Turn and riv no help and I'm out. The same guy either caught great cards or sucked out 3-4 card outters all night... I gotta get him into a NL ring game at some point.

This group of new players still thinks that luck runs the game. They know little about the skill needed.
They watch too much TV and think every hand needs to be an All In Showdown...
And they cannot be bluffed because they do not see the straights or flushes unless they are holding it. And how is it possible that someone else can acutally have a hand?
I have seen Idiots call all the way to the end..even if 4 's are showing and they don't have a .
