If you are going to spend that much on a "cheap chip" than nexgen or the pokerchipco's 10.5 gram w/ no slug are great choices. Personally, i have 1000 nexgens that i got from 5star 3 months ago, when they first came out so i paid $350. And you get the 25% off code. But the casino style 1003 and 1006 are much better as far as feel.

Get the Nexgens and get some custom labels. I just did this for my cheaper set (I have some nice Chipcos) and I was SHOCKED how good the stickers look and feel. They are also REALLY easy to apply. I went with a design that mimicks the Chipco Classic look and they turned out great. I will post some pics later this week.

I like the 1003 casino style ( the crown design) presonally because they look good , fell great and totally - easily customible and are great.

the 1003s are a lil too expensive for me... i'd shoot my wad with 700 of them...

The Nexgens are a good chip and definitely better than the typical 11.5g dice chips. Just that they're not that much better IMHO. Depends why you're upgrading... just need more chips for larger groups or looking for a better chip. You might want to sacrifice quantity for quality as you can always add chips later. Just seconding the spotted clays at pokerchips.com (A-mold's or HH my pic)... check out X-Files chips for some pics. Call for samples then call back then call again - you'll eventually get 'em. The orders w/o inlays turn around much quicker so I hear. If you don't want to spend that much on a chip then the Nexgens are good... just something else to seriously consider.

FYI - I love the feel & weight of the 1003's & 1006's but my samples faded quite a bit after a light water cleaning - my grubby hands had shuffled 'em too much. They faded enough that it caused me concern with long time use. I was going to follow up with them on caring for them and see what they had to say about my samples but I decided to go another route... they were quite responsive to my initial questions and sent samples right out.

I asked the same thing and learned that 5stardeal is SO dirt cheap, and you can order singles, and there's a 25% discount, that I spent $8 total and got a BUNCH of samples of various type from them. It was just too easy.

You can even get custom denomantions for 36 cents a chip. 800 chips would run you 288 bucks and enough left over to cover chipping and handling!.
